Shogun.
Much better and nicer than the foolish Patrol. Thats just a big lump of lard with no presence. Its just large and horrible.
As far as people carriers go, Toyota Previa or Chrysler Voyager.
Purely my own opinion.
Please keep to the centre or left lane of the M25 when you get the vehicle. Its very difficult for us little cars to see around them.

And seriously consider an import. They have mirrors on the back which are a great help when reversing into parking spaces.
You don't get them on the uk spec.

Thanks guys,

Reason for asking is wife want to upgrade the current Shogun she has.

Yes she does use the inside lane when its clear, yes she also puts her foot down when it clear.

Cant & wont buy a Toyota even if it was the best in the world or last car left in the world.

Prefer a 4X4 due to the fact a Van smashed the wife & kids off the road a few years back and drove off leaving a mess, wife wants a tank but a big 4X4 is the closest she can get.

Shogun is the one to have out of these two, but earlier diesel versions were quite underpowered, the latest diesel is OK. All petrol versions drink fuel even worse than Scoob's. Ride is quite good for a large 4*4

All Patrols are underpowered and overweight and suffer from a wallowy ride etc, bigger inside though.

Others to consider:

Toyota Landcuiser Colorado, been around a few years now but very competant all round.

L-Rover Disco TD5 GS/XS/ES (no prior versions), best handling of all 4*4 (only with ACE) in this sector, but build quality is PANTS

Isuzu Trooper, latest model only. Lack of image but good engines and build quality, cheaper than the rest. Ugly.

Anyone got any opions on the following 2 cars.

Shogun LWB 7 seater
Nissan Patrol LWB 7 seater
Something else, that seats 7 facing forwards.

I dont want to here about 4X4 drivers etc, just the good or bad points about each, yes its for the wife to carry the kids about in, no it wont go off road.

Cheers

barge.

Then get a people carrier not a off roader http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

P.S. the topic should say Shotgun or Petrol bomb how should we kill these 4x4's

Shogun, definately http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Brilliant vehicles. Go anywhere, reliable, fun, safe (don't believe everything you read), and real road presence. Who cares if you never go off road for fear of getting the tyres dirty http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

Probably be getting one after the Scoob - if I can find a good Pajero Evolution, that is!

Definately a Shogun.. not only for all the reasons mentioned above but because they have more style than a Nissan (yuck) plus resale value will be higher... everybody knows the Shoguns hold value...

Diablo - Good call on the Pajero Evolution.. recently let one slip through my fingers... now looking for another.. having driven it.. they are EVIL for a tank !!!

JayDee 02 February 2001 01:53 PM

As well as the scoob I have a Range Rover. (That's where I'm coming from )

The Shogun is the better vehicle but the Nissan is more "tank like" I suppose

Are you buying new or second hand - second hand I would definitely have the Shogun

But why NOT a Toyota? - Landcruiser Amazon is what I'd get (If I had the money)

Depending on the trade in value of the current Shogug then new.

Cant, wont buy a Toyota, or Lexus no matter what.

Disco may be of interest, I prefere the Shogun, but women, you know what they are like [curvy, things with hips & boobs] cant make their minds up.

If you want a bit of style get a new Discovery. Mines got 7 seats and the spec is excellent. It's the ultimate family car, if like me you have 3 kids and 2 dogs. Has a range of up to 600 miles (Td5) and extremely good fun off road and very easy to drive - my 12 year old daughter can drive it in the first 2 gears! Second choice would be a Shogun but not as nice looking but well equipped. Have tried people carriers and 7 seater estates but nothing competes with a Discovery and has excellent security and safety features.

barge 02 February 2001 05:35 PM

Yep 3 kids.
2 dogs.

Cant do toyota.
Something to do with living next door to them & them having 3am deliveries, parking accross the drive during day time being general********************** during the day etc etc.
Disco does sound nice, I'm still in for a new Shogun, nissan are offering 0% interest free credit for 3 year at the moment though which helps.
