Hi,

[I should add this is broadband cable modem]

Seem to be having a big problem with connecting to Blueyonder using my new Powerbook G4.

Powerbook is setup for Ethernet with Auto DHCP. Seems to be getting an IP address, but whenever I type a web address, or try to use pop3 or smtp, it can't find the server.
ie, it's like it can't see the DNS server?????

Broadband helpline forced a reboot of the Cable modem to ensure the new MAC address of the powerbook was in the modem, but it still didn't work.

Is there some issue with my DNS server address coming from DHCP?

Stick the LAN cable from modem back in my other PC and everything is fine!

Eh!?

Try leaving if possible a pc un-plugged from the cable modem for at least a day if not longer. Then try again.

The other solution, if you can call it that, is to forcefully release the ip address lease. On the pc when plugged into the modem, use "Winipcfg" if in a 9x os or "ipconfig" if on nt based system. Winipcfg is a gui interface, where as ipconfig is a command based utility. Use the release all option, when done swap the ethernet cable over and try again.

OK - should be fine once I get the airport basestation but until then, need to swap over quite often.....

Thx

All working ok now, so lan cable disconnection for many hours must have solved it...thanks!
