an Avi is the file format. it can be divx encoded, xvid encoded etc. What are you trying ot do?

You might want to have a look at Xvid4PSP. I've used it a few times recently to create mp4 files (to play on the 360 and ps3).

hi Sti ,

I wanna play avi movies on my phone (which supports DivX and Xvid apparently)

so what do I need to do ?

You could use the program that I just mentioned which will convert almost any format to one that will work on your portable device (psp, phone, ipod etc). It's free too.

In regards to playing files on the PS3, do you not just use tversity to transcode on the fly? I am assuming you stream your media from a NAS box, PC or similar?

Yes and no. Got everything on my NAS (with twonky server), but I've got other files (holiday stuff etc) which I want to put on a disc and take to the relations (to play on their 360/ps3 boxes). Streaming isn't an option then :)

Yeah I thought you would anyway:thumb: , I am surprised how many people I speak to who have PS3s, who don't knew they can stream media from there computer to there telly though

I use Any Video Converter which takes any video format and converts it to what you specify. Has worked well so far to create xvid files.

mkv2vob will convert x264 only takes a min or so

That's a multiplexing though, not transcoding, the former being lesser quality, which is fairly noticeable.
