How to remove silicone/tigerseal
How the hell do i get this stuff off.
I got a good amount off with the spoiler but the rest doesn't want to come off at all What could i use that i can buy tomorrow:) Thanks in advance :D |
I have heard that a hair dryer from the inside of the boot works wonders.
|
Ok I have asked my geeky mate, try this
Cut the worst off with a thin blade, Then use Auto Glyms intensive tar remover and petrol to shift the rest. Or Silicone remover from a glazing shop Or carb cleaner. Make sure the thinner isnt as strong as 2K as it will react with the paint like break fluid does. That is the extent of his knowledge, Hope it helps though. |
i have been here and its HARD HARD HARD !!!
It is that hard in fact, it took my paint off, eek ! its typical,it didnt hold the splash guard on that well yet it holds itself on pretty well when you DONT want it to do its job. my advice isnt really any good as i didnt do a good job,as i say,i removed the paint to get it off, only a small patch and managed to get a badge tohide it ha ha but still,be careful is all i`ll say,the paint its on will come off 1st before the final bit of tigerseal will come off |
well the part the silicone is on doesnt have paint under it as it was on a unpainted part of the boot. Im getting that part painted so dont care about the paint.
I cut as much as i could off with a blade an there is quite alot left I can imagine bug an tar remover working Other plan was to scare it off. Sneak up on it an POW maybe it would fall off. But i cant see it working lol I will pop to wicks an see what remover products they have Cheers |
let us know how u get on, cant see any products working TBH, i resorted to using a rubbing compound,i used a few products but the stuff is very durable to chemicals,it needs more brute force, hence the rubbing compound.
|
Petrol mate that'll work but its hard work!! if your getting re painted then let them get it off when sanding :thumb:
|
WD40 helps
|
I had the same problem when I removed my spoiler. AG Intensive Tar Remover and a lot of effort eventually got it off. That said, I never tried scaring it off :lol1:
|
CHEERS!!!
TOMORROW i SHALL GO FOR IT! |
Tried the autoglyms tar remover and elbow grease!!!
Still got some to do.........im going to take off what I can- finish with black tiger seal leave a couple of days and paint paint with touch up paint I bought. Its just a fine line you can see and its white, so primer over, touch up using small brush and then laquer. I initially spilled some excess tiger seal on paint work while fitting spoiler- trying to do it on your own is hard!!!! Connor_scotland you going to crail on the 8th of feb for the 1/4 mile sprints!! :) ? I took excess off before it set with turps and losts of effort. seems through my paint work has faded a bit in patches. Any ideas lads on something to restore colour- its not terrible faded- just a little if you look closely CHEERS FELLAS!!!!!!! |
Yea im going to try an go for down then mate.
Right im going to tackle this tonight :-) |
come on then, how`d it go ?
|
Not to well. Bought some silicone remover an it was crap.
Shouting at the boot got more off than it........ I attacked it with a knife again, got alot more off. Went in a bit of a bad mood so stopped before i caused damage, Will try some bug an tar stuff tomorrow and if that fails....FIRE |
If you can leave a bit of soaking in time for whatever you apply. Failing that tell it you saw some hot female tigerseal over the road and it looked like it would put out for a bottle of bucky.
That might shift it!!! |
lol
connor scotland-good idea stopping mate when pissed off!! I have made a few mistakes when peed off with cars..........hammer usually fixes everything at that point! |
i know lol i was beginning to get rougher an rougher so i figured if i don't stop i will do everlasting damage.....
There isnt to much left. I will need a small bit of paint. Lucky i have it |
Only thing I can suggets is trying to keep the volatiles in when using WD40 or bug and tar or WTF. Tets it first just in case it melts it but can you drown the offending parts in remover and cover it with plastic film or cling film? Leave it for several cups of tea or even overnight?

good shout cheers mate
I have got rid of what i can and now im going to paint over the excess in the small areas between spoiler and boot Hope it goes ok! |
I had the same problem after my Vortex Generator flew off and despite trying all of the solutions mentioned, ended up f*cking it up myself!:freak3:
I was saved by Scoobyclinic - I asked them to have a crack at getting the gunk off whilst the car was in for something else and they did a remarkable job:luxhello: |
Tonight i made no progress i stood an looked at it for about 2 mins, Scratched my chin then balls........ Couldnt think of anything so came inside.
On saturday im going to heat it up an its coming off even if it means taking the paint off or smashing the bootlid with a hammer............Hmmmmmmmmmmm And i thought getting the spoiler off was the hard part |
why waste your time removing it all mate, just use a blade to remove the big lumps and get it flat as possible then bond your new spoiler onto the boot and then bolt it on. no point removing every last drop just to add your own lol
|
I did the same thing connor!! lol
I managed to get a bit off though Going to try and paint over it tomorrow I just tiger sealed the spoiler though no bolts as they were knackered. I used a lot of tiger seal..........should this be ok- feels solid.......more solid than when the incorrect bolts were used.........woul like some opinions either way cheers |
Yea it will be ifne mate i was driving about with my spoiler just on with tigerseal as i knackered the 4 bolts
The spoilers is a bit smaller Adz so you can see about 1inch strip of white sealent I will get it off tho |
Right got 99% of it off
Sharpened a kitchen knife on the bench grinder an managed to get it off then attacked it with petrol an a rag which got the rest off. Connor 1 - Tigerseal/sealent 0 I was nearly loosing the plot tho took a good 1hour 1/2 |
well dONE!!!!!!!I
|
Im gonna attack it again pn friday! lol
|
Well now i know what i will NEVER change on my car,lol
Well done guys. Mac |
lol
yep dont!!! |
