What's the deal - secondhand Newage STi ECU's with Ecutek Licence

Hello,

I am noticing lately a few newage ECU's for sale with the Ecutek Licence roughly going for between £100 -£200.

Questions.......

I have a PPP'd 2002 STi - can I purchase one of these ECU's for mine from any newage, or must it be a 2002?

Do I need to mess about with keys (i.e is there an immobiliser system)

Is it really plug n play - whats involved?

Is there anything to look out for - any pitfalls?

Now the actual remap, say the ECU is fitted - do I then just take it to (for instance) Andy Forrest to have it mapped to my limited mods - is this done without issue as the Ecutek technically came from another car?

What gains are likely from the standard STi PPP to Ecutek with this fitted....

2.5" H&S Centre Section and Second Decat with TSL Firestorm Backbox.

K&N Panel Filter.

PFR7B Plugs.

Finally, does anyone have a ballpark figure cost wise what it would be to have the ECU with the licence remaped to suit mine.

Ahhhh, now breathe.....

Thanks

Charlie

Around £400+VAT is my guess in these cash strapped times....

The licence is fine, but the mapper has to start from scratch and do a full map without access to the current map, IF you are lucky "he" might do it for less if it is a quick job ?

Q.2. 330 BHP AND BETTER THROTTLE RESPONSE, BETTER mpg (sorry shouting again !)

HTH

P.S. Makes me want a Simtek ! LOL

Isn't the map sucked to the laptop and edited? So curent map available??

Not had ECUTek, just Apexi PFC remapped.

As much as that Duncan?

That makes it just about the same price as a new remap on my current Prodrive ECU does it not?

i.e £150 for S/H Ecutek ECU PLUS £400 for remap

versus £550 for fresh Ecutek on my ECU

And here's me thinking it was a shortcut to power :norty:

From Jolly Green Monster a remap is £300 + VAT

no you cannot read the ecutek map off the ecu.. just write a new one.

it is best to match years but I believe 2001~2005 sti should be the same wiring diagram... although UK and JDM differ..

the keys need coding to the new ecu.. spares too..
your mapper can do it
mapper best to fit ecu or you just before he arrives etc as it won't run until keys coded
no pitfalls I am aware of.

Yes no issue except the added work to swap ecu and code the keys
which I don't charge for.. no idea re-others

Around 330~340bhp and similar torque, more throttle response, better mpg, smoother to drive.
