help needed....can anyone help????
hey there everybody just wanted some advice re the gearbox.
i have a r reg uk turbo 2000 1997 i recently got a clutch and flywheel put in by api impreza and a week later was driving normally changed gears from 1 to 2 at 2500rpm and sudenly a big judder and loud bangs. contacted david and a few others and they all told me it was the gearbox,so as i spent al lmy money,my father and uncle opened the car up and after a war we got the gearbox out, that was the problem. spoke to a few people and i bought a sti v3 97 gearbox and was told i could change the rear diffs but if i didnt it wasnt a big issue, asked a lot of poeple and they all said its ok, as some 1 is runin a type ra gbox on the uk car with uk difs. we got everything back inside the car and now started it up but the clutch pedal is not working. i put my foot 2 it like tap it and it wud jus bang rite down wont cum back untill i pul it back up?????? anyone have a clue what that could be???? im lost and kinda fedup now and really less out of pocket now!! next to the starter motor is this black thing which is pushed by a rubber pointy thing, that has a spring contacted to it but that spring i couldnt find out where it goes??? dont think it could be the spring??? so plz if sum1 can plz help me??? does any one know any garages local to west london??? cheers everybody |
I think your talking about the spring that pull the clucth cylinder back. if you are it helps bring the pedal back up
|
hmmm but when i pedal goes down it shud engage i the clutch rite ??? even tho it doesnt come back up
|
This isn't a spring issue fella, i have no spring on mine at all......
Unfortunately its actually a clutch bearing issue.....either the metal ring holding the bearing to the pressure plate isn't in place. It is triky if you don't know about it.....did you check the bearing fitment to pressure plate? |

Sounds like the clutch release bearing has not been located or the rings has been damaged on install. You may be able to see what’s going on by looking where the clutch fork is located on the gear box as there is small opening.
First thing to do when replacing the box, once all lined up locate the bearing before you bolt up. |
cheers neil going to check that right now

The slave for the clutch shouldn't have been touched in this case, and there should be absolutely not reason to bleed the slave unless you drained the clutch fluid totally or have air in the system, but even if you did have a little air there should still be some form of engagement between slave and fork.
As neil said above (you will struggle) but have a look through that black boot on the gearbox and see if the bearing itself is moving back and forth with the fork or is it latched onto the pressure plate? Please note this won't be easy to see....but there;'s no harm in trying. A mirror and torch or a cam phone may also work :wonder: |
mine pedal done it, cud chnage gear fine, but pedal wudnt reurn to correct possition, untill flicked up. turned out the spring had gone on the clutch cylinder return
|
Damn wireless writing this the 2nd time now lol
The slave function can be monitored with 2 people, obviously you will need to pull pedal back up, and then 1 person push down clutch pedal and the other to monitor the travel of clutch slave pin onto fork....if this moves then you will know that the slave is functional as in pushed the clutch fork. But you must have a look inside the boot and see if the bearing is mated to the pressure plate of your clutch. If the bearing is sliding back and forward with your clutch fork then theres an issue. Or should i ask was the bearing lugs slotted into the clutch fork before installation of new gearbox? All these questions now but honestly mate i think you need to make a vid or take some pics for us to actually know whats going on. |
sorted ;ads thanks 4 all the advice the bearing wud go forward but wudnt lock in,but when taken back out we had 2 closly see the circle pin/clip holding had 2 be put correctly and then the bearing would clip on n not come out, sorted cars back out
cheers lads thanks baly u gave loads of help |
p.s. followed neils way n checked that the fork was goin inside but wasnt cliping on from der we worked then and got it fixed. cheers neil
