Hello and hi to everyone on this site,i am new here and need some advice if at all possible?? It started when i went to Bristol in oct 08 . On the way home the turbo went and had to recover the car,got second hand turbo which we think is good and after fitting we found that the car wouldnt hold water. so next we replaced the head gaskets which seemed ok for 2 days and then it broke down again.On inspection we found one of the gaskets blown in the middle[due to later model torque setting given] so we have now done yhem again and now the car smokes on start up,After a few miles it clears but the following morn it does the same again .My mate said the breather might be blocked on one side so we ran the car with them off,no smoke from back but when booted plenty from bonnet area.Now mechanic says maybe crank pressure or something to that effect.I am at the end oif my tether with this car and i love it this is the problem can anyone help me please???? its a 1997 car running approx 300 bhp thanks so much

Mike,
Sounds like excessive crankcase pressure/worn bores/rings lost their tension due to the engine overheating at some time.
IMHO get a Compression Test and a Cylinder Leakage Test done on the engine - it will narrow down where the problem is.

Well thanks very much, thats what my car mender said it could be. Crank pressure, well if thats the case i will scrap it as it has cost me shed loads over the last 3 months, i would like to thank you again for taking the time to write down possibilites for me mike

dont scrap it you can pic a good engine up for about 600 quid at the moment if you dont want to spend anymore money on it the brake it or sell it as a none runner you will get alot more money back than what its worth as scrap

where can you get a "good" engine for £600 pounds?????Wonder???/

I got a good used engine with 75,000 miles on ebay for £450 mid last year. All I had to do was pick it up (luckily local) and fit it (surprisingly easy). They are around so don't despair, tho that was a standard engine. If you want 300 horses then may be more pricey.

Since then have picked up a short block with 50k miles for £300 as a spare. All I will have to do next time is remove the affected engine. Swap the heads and a few other bits, refit and wait for the next blow-up LOL :D

Reminds me, need to order some head gaskets, the plan won't work without them :lol1:
