Fitting bugeye fog covers

Thought this would be relatively painless!
I have the necessary Subaru brackets and an OEM set of covers, but the brackets won't fit with the lights still in place
and I was hoping to keep them.

Is this possible? I have standard WRX fog lamps.
Did the STI model come with smaller fog lamps to clear the brackets?
Or are there different brackets available?
I'll post some pics later.

I believe there is a surround on the fog light. theses need to come out first.

Should see a smal groove to place a flat blade screw driver and pop them out.
Just be carefull not to damage the plastic or the paint.

Is that right?
Won't that expose some of the areas behind, or is there not a lot worth protecting - i.e. is the grey plastic trim purely decorative?

Here are some pics; I've highlighted in red on the second one where the bracket's fouling the light, but you may be right that they would fit if I removed the surround - I will have to see.

and with bracket in place..won't fit...

Nope - I can't see that the surround should come out - certainly doesn't feel like it would come voluntarily! Plus, the indentation for the bracket is in the surround so removing it would probably mean the bracket would move...

Any other ideas?
Do STI's have different brackets?
