£1,000 to spend?
Thinking of spending a few quid on my 2004 WRX PPP. Yes, I know I should probably spend it in brakes or handling but in this instance just want to improve engine performance!
It is a standard WRX PPP with the exception of a Scoobyclinic cat back exhaust. What should I buy - guessing a re-map but what can I add to get the best results for this small investment:wonder: |
vf35 - £250
Walbro - £80 remap - £550 pfr7b's - £30 2nd hand decat downpipe - £80 £990 |
Where would I get a VF35 for £250 - thought that they were considerably more even on Fleabay?
|
I paid £200 for a low mileage one off here, met the guy (and car it came off too) so it's certainly possible to get one for £250
|
injectors, fuel pump and remap :thumb:
|
remap £500-£650 plus 15% V.A.T = £575-£690
With 1k i would get fuel pump de-cat down pipe remap, till funds become free to do more. Injectors are not needed at this stage. |
With a remap he will be up towards the top end of the injector duty cycle and the mapper may well have to back boost off in order to keep it within the duty cycle.... no fun in that. 420cc injectors are talking 300 bhp with a small headroom in there. 550's would mean the mapper can concentrate on getting the most from it.
A decat would help performance but not everyone wants the hassle of a decat for MOT time. |

Connor i edited your post. :thumb: |
I thought if the car was PPP'd it would have the uprated fuel pump already?
|
I didn't know it doesn't have 440cc injectors, I just presumed it would.
As the 99/00 uk cars got 440cc injectors std I just presumed they carried it on into the newer cars. Personally though I'd spend the extra and go for the full monty, there's little point doing less as you already have ppp so it's not 'much' of an upgrade to justify the outlay IMO. |
sorry if its a stupid question but whats a VF35??
|
a vf35 is a turbo upgrade i believe its an sti turbo but not sure but its a turbo any way ..,,..joe

For me: Panel Filter (£45) Sports cat downpipe (£300 new Scoobyworld, £150 second hand Prodrive, no MOT issues) Remap (£600 ish) With anything left over - geometry setup somewhere decent, or rear droplinks and ARB. |
As above
Down pipe either decat or sports cat, sports cat better if you need an MOT some time, cost new decat £150, sports cat new £300 used decat £80 used sports cat £150 prodrive seem a good one to use as they fit straight on with the vf34/35 and rest of the system you have, panal filter (k + n or green) new £40 used £20 turbo vf34/35 approx £250 to 300 injectors £150 (needed if you want over 320bhp safe) fuel pump £70 (new) or £40 used needed for over 280bhp you dont have this fitted as part of ppp only sti ppp had this fitted, Remap approx £550 needed to set up car properly extras cold grade spark plugs, sti 8/9 intercooler, 3" exhaust, |
brakes!
All well and good hiking the power but the first time you really need the brakes and they're not there, you really wish you had done it. |
Thanks chaps. Will keep you posted on progress but looking at sports down-pipe, 440 injectors, fuel pump, panel filter and re-map. I am sure brakes will have to follow swiftly afterwards:lol1:

440cc injectors are classic injectors which won't fit.
if you are sticking with standard turbo then the standard injectors are fine. Simon :) |
