Imports V's UK - What is the difference?
I am looking for some advice:
I am thinking about buying my first Subaru Impreza. I am after a 04/05 model STI and I am wondering if there is any difference between an import and a UK model? Is it worth holding on to find a pro-drive model or is there not much difference? Thanks in advance :) |
Thing with uk car is you get to meet the seller and or see the service history, alot of the time you don't get the chance with an import. Spec is pretty similar with uk and JDM.
Gear box has DCCD on JDM spec and slightly closer ratio 5th and 6th gears where as uk spec doesn't have dccd and has longer ratio gears to JDM spec as our m/way speed limit is higher than japan so aparantly thats the reason for that. Interior is pretty similar on both cars. IMO the PPP pack is a waste of time because almost all of it has to go when you get fed up of the meeselie power gain. My old man had ppp fitted to 02 reg bugeye and within 6 mnths of being fitted he opted for more power as the ppp didn't deliver. PPP cars cost more money to buy and will always hold value over a standard car, but there will be uk spec STI's out there for similar money as the PPP ones but with more car for ya dollar. IMO i'd avoid A DJM car for ya first scooby and find a cherished uk car.:thumb: |
Dont avoid the JDM cars, i owned one back in 2003, best car i ever owned :D but like any scoob you have to look for its history.
JDM's are slightly harder to come by and slighly harder to find any problems with if they are imported into the country with no documentation, so avoid these ones, look for good examples, the service intervals are shorter (10k km or 7.5k miles or 6 months, whatever is first) and the gearbox oil needs changing every year with a-dccd equipped cars, otherwise they are far better than their uk counterparts! I think I will most probably stick to what I thought of in the first place - a UK model, but you read so many reviews that your head gets tangled. A quick question though: What is a DCCD (new to all this) does this mean it is a better or worse gear-box? Thanks |

A A-DCCD gearbox is better, it (the A stands for automatic, the dccd stands for drivers controlled centre differential, also has a manual setting) automatically (when set on A) adjusts the torque distribution front/rear reducing understeer to the point where there isnt any ;) though it can take some getting use to, it is a little wierd when you find yourself oversteering then the car pulls it back for you ;)

I not certain but I don't think thats correct either on 04 Sti's and 05 UK Stis have DCCD ;)
