My mate just bought an Escort Cosworth and at the end of the day it's still a Ford Escort, same probs etc...

He can't wait to get rid. And no, I'm not saying that cause I got a Scoob...

weeebell 14 January 2009 10:16 PM

oooooooooo toughy, that really means what kind of 'better' your talking about. Looks or performance? Escort Cosworths are stunning to look at. (Auriallis blue with 18" Rondells) but an STi would kill in on the track.

Isnt there a Top Gear clip of a standard STI Type R vs a 330bhp Cossie? Nothing in it.

cossies are the mutz nutz in the looks department but a scooby is far advanced mechanicly allthought the old yb can be tuned to some good power

Like he said ^^^^^

I,ve had one and about 6 other cossies, they,re getting on now and can be VERY troublesome, i was lucky because i had/have the financies to build and maintain a good car.

If it were me i,d say own one once in your lifetime, i personally think the Escos even today is one of the sexiest looking cars out there, BUT performance wise it,s tame now compared...:thumb:

Get yourself a 450bhp 3dr or saff instead, then you,ll know what scary driving is..  :cuckoo:

weeebell 14 January 2009 10:57 PM

I dont understand??? How can /does a 3dr 450bhp Cosworth go round corners? It cant??:wonder:

There is but if you watch it carefully,at the end you can tell it's set up so that they cross the line together. Can't have Mr Needell losing to VBH can we.:lol1:

Having never driven an Escort Cosworth I can't comment on whether they are good or not so my vote goes to Subaru.:thumb:

My point is that they had to use a modded Esc Cos to keep with a standard Type R. I remember seeing that Cossie in a few Ford mags and it was a serious piece of kit in its day

I agree that standard Cossy against standard Scooby the Scoob should win and using a tuned car against a standard one is cheating slightly but,if you do tune them you create different beasts, and after all its the exprience you get from driving them that gives the enjoyment.

Pete 15 January 2009 12:27 PM

The car in question was Mark Sheads Escort Cosworth, the guy who ownes
M.A DEVELOPMENTS, who built my Evo and has built some serious cossies and Evos.

It was running 400bhp on the Top Gear clip, maybe alittle more, so the Subaru did good really..

Neil.. 15 January 2009 05:37 PM

Escort cossies are just way too much money, for a 15-ish year old escort, with 20 year old, out dated mechanicals underneath...

I went through this decision 9 years ago, and after back to back road tests I picked the Subaru. It was a standard JDM WRX, against a standard escos.

I still have a hankering for an escos, but if I had to have one, it would still be the Subaru.

yeah iv allways said this since i saw the video in question shes a good car length in front then she backs off for him to level up. the escort has more power but the escos have a very high transmision loss. pound for pound an all round the scooby is a far better car an all round the scooby is better car especialy as far as reliability goes. i think scoobys are probably one of the best awd turbocharged cars on the market for taking a licking an keeping on ticking lol

+Doc+ 15 January 2009 07:17 PM

VBH cant drive as well as Tiff, as exampled in the P1 vs Evo race.

Truthordare 15 January 2009 07:31 PM

I have both, why is there a choice? I use one for daily use and as a work horse for going to the dump it site and the other I use for funsies, can you guess which way round they are? (btw Escos is stripped and caged and Subaru is standard) I must say for the grin factor the Escos wins hands down.

My mate has a WR1 for sale at the moment and has had a few offers of swaps for Escort Cosworths.

Cany you imagine swapping a 2004 300+bhp stunning Impreza with 30k for a K reg Escort with 90k?:cuckoo:
I've been in the WR1 once and the pull in every gear is superb and the looks are right up there with the Escort IMHO

Erh.... is it just me or is there another Impreza versus Cosworth clip?

The one I remembered was VBH versus Clarkson, not Tiff

YouTube - The Power of Ford Cosworth for being Tunned by J.C.

AJF 15 January 2009 10:11 PM

the one that one the drag race was over 500bhp at the time and was a demo car for ma developments who had someone from ford rewrite the ecu
