POSTAGE COSTS

Rant on.

Just blowing off steam here, but why do I have to pay over priced costs to get items delivered to my address in the Highlands ???

For example last week I bought snow foam from ebay and they wanted £6 postage for 5 litres. Got an email from them stating that cause I stay in the Highlands its £15 postage. I cancelled that order and bought 10 litres of snow foam from Ireland at only £6 postage, wtf :cuckoo:

Its the same old story anything to PH33 postcode, lets rip the feckers off. It doesnt cost me extra to post things out, but why more to get them to me.

Rant off.

p373kay 14 January 2009 06:33 PM

Ill bet if you asked for it to go to the local depot only it would be cheaper! Its cos they need to give the boy a dog and sled team to get to you! :o ;) Still snowing up that way? LOL

slipstream_uk 14 January 2009 07:28 PM

Na its pi$$ing down again, been like that for about a week now.

slipstream_uk 14 January 2009 07:33 PM

Here is 2 example what im going on about. I was on ebay looking for a pressure washer and they had this statement at the bottom of their listing.

"THE POSTAGE QUOTED IS FOR THE UK MAINLAND ONLY IF YOU LIVE IN THE CHANNEL ISLES, SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS, IRLAND, OR ISLE OF MAN PLEASE EMAIL FOR POSTAGE DETAILS. "

"WE POST TO THE UK MAINLAND ONLY SORRY BUT WE DO NOT POST TO IRELAND, THE HIGHLANDS, OR ANY ISLES. WE POST OUT WITH FASTWAYS, IF YOUR ITEM IS NOT WITH YOU WITHIN 1 WEEK PLEASE CONTACT ME."

My question is, when did the Highlands separate from the rest of the UK mainland. As the last time I look at a map, it was still attached.

Connor_scotland 14 January 2009 08:01 PM

Yea mate i was the same for my JUN lip

It was £9 postage an when i said highlands an gave IV2 it was £20

Mental. They dont understand we are not living in little stone houses in forests

Anything you buy has in small print "if you live in PH** TO IV** please contact us for additional costs OR if you live in the highlands we will charge you obscene amounts of postage"

So how oculd postage double just because im in Inverness???

It just seems another way for them to make more money - Well on ebay anyways

Tiz snowing like a biatch here!! Glad I got my winter tyres on :D

Aberdeen Al 14 January 2009 08:09 PM

It's not just the Highlands.............we were going to be charged an extra £25 for delivery of a washing machine as we had an AB15 postcode (2 x miles outside Aberdeen city centre)!!

Connor_scotland 14 January 2009 08:10 PM

Its mental isn't it.

I do see the point of extra postage to proper remote areas but not double the price or more

mickywrx 14 January 2009 08:51 PM

Not sure exactly, but, probably because the poor sod that covers that area will be driving between 30-60 mins between stops, sometimes more. This all costs at the end of the day.

Live in the middle of nowhere, then expect to pay a premium I'm afraid.

No idea why 2 mile out of Aberdeen carries a premium mind.

According to the courier anything north of Dundee is classed as inaccessable :cuckoo: .....................so much for being Europe's oil capital!!

This wouldn't go in the letter box :D

Just out of interest, If you post something from PH to IV does it cost more? And if you post something from IV to London is it a standard postage cost? Just wondered if its all one way or if they get you on posting down the way too.

RB5 Boyo 15 January 2009 12:10 PM

I know how you feel mate, living in northern ireland is the same.

Was buying a suspension bush on ebay there for £19.99 for my dads car, and the guy was looking for £19.99 to post it ffs:cuckoo:

I get it all the time when ordering parts, its a real pain in the a4se:razz:

KungLao 15 January 2009 12:18 PM

have anyone sold stuff in ebay? i think that most cases are this way.
item itself are low price, but sellers tries to get some profit adding little item cost to shipping cost, so the ebay fees will be smaller.
if you understand what i mean :)

bmac800 15 January 2009 12:36 PM

A lot of these sellers are giving it all this crap about costing extra to post to the Highlands and charge three times the price and then post it through the Post Office anyway.Absolute rip off and I try to avoid buying anything from them.

Its all one way mate, doesnt cost me any extra to post to London or to Darlington where my sister stays. Same as PH to IV no extra cost, just the normal prices.
Ive also got the problem where I pay next day or 24hr postage is always takes 3 days to get it. I would understand if I was in the middle of nowhere, but im only 112 miles from Glasgow and 69 miles from Inverness. The main route passes through my hometown.

wolfie28 15 January 2009 02:12 PM

As already quoted certain companies/ folks take the pi$$ with P+P charges. How do some offer free P+P and others charge the earth :wonder: . As with you P+P charges really gets my temper raging  and I live in mainland England.

Here are 2 different examples that I have encountered recently:

Camskill - Delivered 2 tyres via courier, free P+P, was ordered 2pm arrived 10am the next day :luxhello:.

Amazon - SD memory card, cost £3.49, P+P £6 - ordered cancelled .

I feel for you up there in the artic circle  :D.

Timwinner 15 January 2009 03:41 PM

Its is a ridiculous situation, My girlfriend is from kilbirnie so we spend a lot of time on Scotland, I know many places in England that are a lot harder to get to than IV postcodes.
The sooner Royal mail get some viable competition the better.

hhh1234 15 January 2009 04:13 PM

again i live in northern ireland and ordered an induction pipe from japan, total post and packaging cost £15 by air mail. companies in england were going to charge me more for postage totally mucked up

MikeCardiff 15 January 2009 05:09 PM

All depends really - would you rather get to live in the wilds with all the great scenery and driving roads, and pay a bit more for your postage - or would you rather pay the same as everyone else and move to the middle of a city.

Fact is most delivery companies charge extra because whereas they may have 100 drops to make on a 200 mile trip around a city or town, having one drop on a 200 mile round trip to the back of beyond is a lot more expensive for them.

terzo98 15 January 2009 05:15 PM

It’s because Scotland is more sparsely populated. A delivery van can have a round in Manchester for example and deliver 50 items and cover perhaps 50 miles. In Scotland a similar 50 items may require the driver to cover 350 miles.

Mind you the driver should be paying to use all those fantastic roads up there. At least you lads get to drive your cars the way they should be driven. Best roads I’ve driven Glasgow/Fort William/Kyle of Lockalsh/Portree.
