jolly green or slow boy?
 

hi there boys i purchased my version 3 sti very recently, it came with the apexi ecu, fuel pump & this other gauge sort of thing something to do with fuel. all these parts are not fitted, apart from that the ca is standard. im wanting a mapping session but not to sure who is more reliable. any ideas please? what other parts would i need please? im a very confused girl at the moment. :confused: :confused: :confused: btw ive heard good stories about jgm, but nothing about slow boy all iknw the company exists.

why not enjoy the car as standard for now and either
a) sell the bits and make money back
or
b) keep the bits in the cupboard and when you get used to the car's power etc you wont need to fork out for the mods

hmm the only reason im looking to get it done is because i dont want to run the uk fuel without the map as ive been advised by my boyfriend!!:confused:

furthermore as slow boy is closer to me and there service and skills match jgm i would be happy enough to proceed with them?

Neil@ slowboy will also do a really good job. Making sure everything is perfect too, both are good just depends what you want, as slowboy will fit all your parts also

Have you looked into the UK fuel thing?
It is true that japanese fuel is 100RON, but it hasn't always been like this.
Old cars like yours (and mine) came from Japan when the fuel was a lower grade than it is now.
A lot of early cars run perfectly well on SUL or if the owners are paranoid then SUL + OB ;)

Seems to me like you need to spend a little time on google, nasioc and wiki and learn a few things for yourself (dont take BFs word for it either) as otherwise you'll find yourself being led a merry dance on a great many things and this will cost you a lot of time, money and effort to follow all the scooby myths when clearly they aren't all true.

sorry to go off topic - what turbo, injectors and other stuff were you running to get those figures. i only ask as i'm in the process of building a forged 2.5 in a v5 type r.

Hybrid fmic, MD321T+ turbo, 740cc injectors, full 3" decat, external fuel pump with swirl pot, fuel lab fpr, apexi avcr and a simtek exu.

i wont be far off then, i have md321t not the + and no swirl pot, other than that pretty similar.

how much difference is there between the turbos?

On straight v power the T+ will make about 20bhp more. The car also runs a straight cut 5 speed ppg and a exedy twin plate clutch.

the fuel i jus confirmed with my mate is a Mcgils fuel pressure regulator brand new from ebay, i wonder what that is for lol. im still a very big novice

i hav a feeling my box will be the next thing to be changed!!

Hi Kareena. Firstly, your doing the right thing asking questions on here before rushing out and spending your money. Secondly, the best way to go about mapping is to go on your local area forums and post up about having a remapping group buy. If you get a few people interested, most mappers will travel to you and between you all you can share their travel costs, they should also give you a discount for the mapping session itself as long as there are 4 or more people having their cars done for example. Our local club have had Andy Forrest (who i use myself) Jolly Green Monster and Bob Rawle map their cars, and i don't think a bad word has been said about either. As for now the car will run fine on Shell V-Power or Tesco 99 ron Super unleaded.

i have had my car mapped by Slowboy racing on my93 wrx with Apexi Power PC and AVCR installed and set-up. Car ran very nice and strong. I have recently purchased STI Type Ra which is currently running on Simtek ECU with Anti-lag and Launch Control. This has also been mapped by Slowboy racing. All the mapping is been done on the road.

I will be hopefully upgrading few more bits on my car to take it up to 400bhp and will be getting it mapped by slowboy.

Overall i have had very good experence and would recommend slowboy for mapping or any engine builds.

what sort of figures would i be heading towards with those parts? what is the actuall block capable of, i have heard alot of controversy about how the rods let go at 380+

The thing is my car has had a 2.5 conversion done by slowboy racing and is currently in need of bigger turbo, sti 5/6 dccd gearbox, FMIC and injectors and remap. to take me to 400bhp mark.

i wouldnt recommend you go any further then around 320 - 340bhp on your block. Plus you need to take into consideration how much torque your gearbox can take. im assuming you have a VF23 turbo in your car. with a remap im sure you will be close to around that mark.

you wont get 380 without new turbos etc so dont worry about that yet.
Mcgils? never heard of them, the FPRs that seem to be worth it are SX and FuelLab, avoid sytec

The clutch should be ok. however it depends on when the clutch was last changed and how the previous onwner handled the clutch. i.e. if they launched the car or anything like that.

i think you should give neil a call at slowboy racing. he would be happy to give you advice in regards to your set-up and also advice you in regards to the bits you want installed. As he can do it all for you. you may find that it is easier to have a company that can map your car and do the all car work for you. all in one.

I do too if you get close to Bannys power, always have some money put aside for a box, yes there,s some out there running decent ft/lb on standard boxes and go on them, but i,d have money aside incase..:thumb:

Pretty simple answer for who to use when your asking about JGM or Slowboy?

If you want a 2 hour map with no slow driving mapping or checking how the car works in every gear JGM Who is none to do more the 4 maps in a day.

If you want your car to really be looked after were it can be mapped and if anything is wrong go back to the garage to be sorted out (one stop shop) were your car will be checked in every gear and only your car will be mapped that day to make sure it is as good as could ever be, Slowboy Racing.

Some people like one garage to do all the work,
then go to a mapper to do the map,
then find out something is wrong and then have to go back to the garage to get it fixed. (when ever the garage has room for there car again 3 weeks later!)

so basically slow boy do a high standard map than jgm is that what your saying?

Im saying 3 things really.....

1. What is the point of going to a garage to do all the work then to a mapper to get all the praise?

2. If something goes wrong it can all be sorted then and there.

3. Last but not least Slow boy do put a lot more time in to there mapping.
