hi all,
my MY99 has p-zeros fitted at he moment but needs the rears replaced. the fronts are fine....
i do not want any more p-zeros....
would it be ok to put toyos on the back and leave the p-zeros up front ?
or is this a bad idea???
any comments appreciated.

Well i think u'll find it's definatley better 2 do the full monty, not cheap i no:( But even if 2 seem ok still not worth prangin yer car just 2 save a few hundred is it?

when i bought my last impreza it had matching but diferent brand of tyres on the front and back i.e vredstiens ? up front, toyos on the rear, it definently was loose at the back,i actually got to quite like it as it was fun drifting around roundabouts,anyway it was better when i changed to bigger rims and 4 matching tyres and it was quicker around the corners and safer!:D

I have always been advised to change all 4 at once because it could knacker the car if fronts and rears have different grip levels, something to do with the 4WD I have one badly worn rear tyre and the other three are fine, i think the balacing went off on (weight came off) but again have been advised to change all 4.
Can someone correct me if im wrong.

Would Subaru really sell a car that behaved like this???!!!

well my car has crap tyres on it all round & they suk as i span it the other day so waiting 4 me new alloys 2 arrive b4 doin the toyo thing all round & sure i can still drive it without in the same way u can with just new uns at wotever end but u risk losing it if pushed too hard which aint cunning!

NEVER mix tyres - I found out the hard way.

The limit at which they break away is different, so 99% of the time you will feel fine - it's just that you never know when that 1% is going to bite. It's a false ecomomy - change all 4 together.

i can not belive that you cant change one end and leave the others, are you suggesting that when my fronts are done but my rears are at 50% i should just chuck em?????

There are two threads going on within one here - it cracks me up when this happens.

NO you should not mix tyres of different brand/type/tread pattern anywhere on the car, irrespective of what tread depth they have.

YES you can have four tyres of the same type on the car with different wear on them. It may not be ideal, but it is ok.

u sure dave, it would seem some people are suggesting that if i do this either:

a) my AWD system will explode because of the .00000001mm difference in rolling diamater or

b) i will oversteer out of my drive before i start the engine!

Sorry, I edited my post after you posted.

Despite what some people on here might say, Subaru wouldn't sell a car that wasn't capable of coping with a mix of new and worn tyres. The handbook says rotate them every 10,000 km but not that the car will self destruct if you don't;);)

I would personally recommend rotating them even more frequently - I do - then they don't get too much of a different wear pattern in them front to back.
