WHAT DOES BHP ACTUALLY DO?

What does bhp actually do as i've heard the saying torque for go bhp for show and wondered what the reason for having big bhp was .

Horsepower - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

GC8 12 January 2009 08:00 PM

Brake horsepower represents the relationship between torque and revs.

works same thing as a wedding ring ??:wonder:

No. That relationship can be broken: the relationship between torque > rpm > bhp cant be broken. :)

BHP doesn't suck then, but torque does?

Horsepower determines how fast you hit the brick wall, torque determines how far through the wall you travel. ;)

Lol,

I like that..:lol1: :thumb:

A local spaz said my car would not be fast because it has "low power"

although it has more then enough torque IMO, the spaz was having to much fun taking the piss, so i let him get on with it

Understeer is when I hit the fence with the front of the car.
Oversteer is when I hit the fence with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast I hit the fence.
Torque is how far I take the fence with me

I wrote a quick article about it once, hopefully it will clarify a few things for you mate. I have attached it here, feel free to download it. :)

Someone once explained it to me in terms of boxing.
bhp is how fast you can throw a punch.
torque is how hard you can throw a punch.

bhp with unlimited revs and unlimited road will allow you to determine how much air resistance that that the producer of said bhp is able to overcome. Correct me if I have missed something

It has just occurred to me that some cant download that attachment, so here is the link instead. http://www.motorsport-developments.c...AF259.tech.pdf
