lag?
ok, i have loads of lag on my uk classic.
i was told about piston scrosh i only got 307.2bhp should have got around 330bhp the boost really kicks at 4600rpm. if i put a standard uppipe on. would this help? i have a uk 2.0 esl live map board. 440cc injectors td05 16g turbo but with sti v4 pistons! what could i do to bring the lag down.... wanted jgm to map her. but due to work, needed it done asap for mot. well, any ideas would be great:thumb: |
Its a little simple but bigger turbos are in most cases laggier lower down :(
If you have any issues with performance then you need either to get a compression test to see if you have any issues with your pistons or take her to a garage to have her checked over :) I take it you have a full decat exhaust? Tony:) |
no, i have a sports cat.
i always thought a td05 16g wasent that laggy. there was no issue when mapping. once the turbo does kick in. theres plenty of power there. was told the uprated uppipe would/could corse this. as with the sti v4 pistons. as there, lower compresion. just finding out if this is the case. |
ok, if i change the turbo to a quicker spoiling type but about the same power handling. and change the uppipe to a standard type.
will this down the lag a little |
If you're saying that full boost is made at 4,600rpm, then that is high IMHO. I think the TD05H 16G is supposed to easily make full boost by about 3,600rpm... if not earlier, IIRC.
|
thats what im after. its too high.
you can hear the turbo spooling up. but dont kick in till around 4600rpm. tha mapper said its a very laggy set up i have. i wont to bring this down to around 3600rpm. just need ideas, or whats the issue. |
number 1) who is the mapper??
number 2) is that an original tdo5 16G??? uk heads are quite restrictive in terms of spool and top end grunt but then again the 16G is one serious little road turbo. if your running a front mount then expeect full boost around 3600 if your running newage top mount then earlier boost. there something that doesnt quite add up there? who supplied you the turbo? |
That's too laggy for a 16G - I'd also suggest getting the engine checked out.
Has it just started doing this out of the blue or has something been added to cause it? |
personally i dont think thats a genuine 16G. but who knows maybe you can tell us a bit more about your set up??
|
its def a gen 16g, its also got the 90' angle.
all stamped. its only started doing it today after the remap its got the live map board from esl in. should have seen around 330bhp. but only got 307bhp when test driving after the map. they said it was very laggy. but put it down to the sti v4 pistons, and the uppipe. so i'm trying to find out why this can do this. is it a mapping error, or? the engine is spot on. no nockes or anything. every thing looks good on the read out to. but the lag..... |
sounds like exhaust leak before the turbo, intercooler leak or dump valve leaking or turbo is fubar.
Pistons will not cause 1000rpm lag.. what uppipe is it on? Simon |
Mine leaked and had the same problem, mine was due to duff headers leaking at the cylinder head, easy to see as it leaves a big sooty mark....
HTH dunx |
ok, this is the thing.
there is no leaks any where. it was mapped by andy at scooby clinic, as i needed this doing asap the dt05 is working perfect, and i took it off an import not long ago when i did the engine. now heres the best bit. if i put the older esl board in, its fine. starts spoiling up right away. and the boost is alot earlyer than 4600rpm, it is like 36/3700 for a lot of boost. since the map yester day, its laggy. it spoils up. but dont seem to release the boost till 4600rpm the mapper said something about scrosh. could it be the board or the mapping done. i know the td05 spoils and releases the boost earlyer than 4600rpms. i've asked esl avice to. they may think its the mapping done too you can hear the boost, but ain't kicking in till 4600rpm. i just dont get it? |

Pistons will not cause 1000rpm lag.. what uppipe is it on? Simon but if i put the old esl board in. the lag just is not there or dont seem it anyways. |
dabow, I don't doubt your subjective thoughts on this, but how about getting some objective evidence. i.e. by having 2 rolling road runs done: 1 with the old board in, the other with the new ECU in. This will show you exactly where full boost/how much/at what revs, etc, is being produced.
I know it's all extra expense, hassle etc., but the RR operator may just be able to determine the root cause ... |
all ready did that. got the 2 readings in front of me. went to a rolling road not long before the remap.
i've took her out. gave her a good hard drive. it seemed to hesatate a little around 4k, changed the exchange solenoid seemed to have sorted that out. its just the lag to be totaly honist, i dont really think its anything to with the mapping. i just want to eliminate this lag issue i first throught it could be the map. but, every thing seems to be smooth. im at the min thinking of a vf type turbo quicker spoil up. with simerler sort of power if its not the pistons doing this. what else could do this? whats the easyest way to check the front mount for leakes. i'll start checking every angle till its solved |
hold on.. you refit the other board with a map on that isn't really set up for the car and you have normal lag.. mid 3000rpms and you fit the board that was mapped for your setup and it has more lag.. so how could it be anything other than the map?
take it back and get them to sort it Simon |
I agree with Simon - the evidence appears to be too 'obvious'/in your face/out there, etc...' IMHO.

take it back and get them to sort it Simon but if it was the map, if they did it wrong this time. will they be able to sort it out next. if i dident need it doing so quick for its mot, id have waited. a mate sorted it out, via scooby clinic so went with the flow. sorry mate... |
if i got 325bhp id have been more happy.
the set up i have, should have had more id throught. again, you can hear the boost raising. just dont seem to use it proper till around the 4600rpm mark. but you can really feel it when it does what might they have done wrong? might it just need a quick treek? it took them ages to link it up/access the ecu to map it. took 3 laptops, then a couple of cables, and reinstalling the software to link up. i just dont want to call the mapper. if its something else |

Could it just be that the new map is "safer" ?
imho dunx |
may be. but who heard of a very safe modded map.
its something they did wrong... just went out in the car, and there is know no boost. its as if the car is a standard uk turbo. so thats posably why theres no boost. i was thinking if the board had rejected the map. all that money down the drain.... |
how is the money down the drain.. take it back and get it sorted or money back.
Simon |
just a case of wait and see know.
sent an e-mail to them asking to sort this out, but asking for a different mapper to do it. dont know what they will say |
a up mate, long time no hear, sorry to hear your problem but like everyone said it must be the remap, if the other ecu is better and the mapped one is weaker then stand by your email and get it dont again right, good luck.
|
hi mate, i'll get it sorted. just gets on your nerves, i was there all day in the cold. foot the bill on fuel too
they just may put there hands up and sort it. i may be making a mole out of nothing. i'll try the old board first. then if the boost is back, then its the map. |
would ring them first thing tommorrow morning never mind the email **** just speak to the person that mapped
|
i will mate, i t just seems like it always happens to me....
its like a week day soap always something. get that sorted, and its something else well, it better be sorted soon |
