Sony PSP as a Media Player?

With ASDA doing the psp at £89 I'm wondering about how good they are as a media player?

To show photo's - video's - mp3's?

Waste of time or a possibility?

You would be better with an ipod for Mp3's, photos and video's they hold a lot more and are very user friendly.
If you do fancy the gaming side of the PSP then it would be an option, they can play movies, music, pictures and you can surf the web with wifi.
I had one for xmas, very nice bit of kit.

Can you not expand the psp then?

Not to the size of an ipod.
The ipod is 80gig with no expansion needed (or less on the cheaper models)
The PSP you need to buy a Sony memory card and I think the max it will take is 4gig.
I have a 2gig card, I suppose this will hold a film and some music, it would just mean you would have to swap more.

You can get 16gb cards if you want, so plenty of room for music and vids.

Thanks, I didnt know the maximum size available, I thought I read that 4 or 8 gig was the max the PSP could handle.

It was 8gb a long time ago, so I'm assuming 16gb is OK now, I'm sure it was part of an updated. I will check.

16Gb is quite respectable ..... is the screen good? Good enough for photos and videos?

Does the psp allow downloads of MP4 and jpegs? Is it simply drag n drop?

joey_turbo 10 January 2009 08:48 PM

Yeah, 16gb works: Will a 16GB MS Pro Duo Mark 2 work with a PSP? - PSP Hacks - Forums

Not sure, got mine free with a phone deal 4 years ago.
I suppose it is. But for an extra 20 quid, you can get 3 games to get you started. ASDA direct | Sony PSP Bundle with Wipeout Pure and Daxter Games and a PSP Accessory Pack | Games Consoles & Accessories
ASDA direct | Sony PSP Bundle with Tekken Resurrection and Iron Man Games and a PSP Accessory Pack | Games Consoles & Accessories

I have read the new gen cannot be flashed, is this still correct? Can't find anything on the forums about it.

Also any link to the 20 quid 16 gig card?

Is the PSP3000 that cannot be flashed, yet.
The Asda's deal is a 1st, so not the slim, but a slim can be flashed too.

Some of the advantages are emulators. SNES, Gameboy, Megadrive and even Nintendo 64 games can be played on PSP. For free off the net.
