boost increase

Hi,

I want to increase the boost on my 95 wagon to 1 bar.

Question :- Will the std ECU always tell the wastegate solanoid to reduce pressure based on MAP sensor telling the ECU the pressure is too high?

If so what can I do about it?

Any advice / suggestions appreciated.

Rob

PS. car std apart from full decat

i concidered sticking in a smaller bore restrictor pill-- 1.2mm standard to a 1mm. I decided against as i don't have a boost gauge and its a bit of a corse adjustment and totally "try it and see"! would be cheap at around £2 tho! Over boost and fuel cut might be very likely if you already have full decat.

Lets see what everyone else says...

send a pm to scott t he can sell you a polar performance chip which is the only generic map chip that seems safe to use i know alot of people on here do not like any generic maps but scott has a huge amount of people that will back up his product with out any negative comments the chip will give you 1.1 bar of boost the correct fuel and ignition map to suit :thumb:

I will now add that the very best way to raise boost and power is to have a esl live daughter board fitted with a custom re-map to suit your car with any mods you have made cost will be approx £550 but you have a system that can be re-mapped to any other mods you make and again scott t can advise you on this also i hope this is of help to you:thumb:

I don't know whether a smaller restrictor would only help temporarily until the ECU got wise to the extra manifold pressure and started opening the solanoid more frequently to compensate. I might just end up with a boost spike, but as I say I don't know for sure.

Some sort of ECU mod maybe the only option. Has anyone else had experience of the Polar Chip mentioned?

If there is another way (perhaps cheaper!) then would be interested to hear.

Target boost for my wagon is 10.8 psi (7.5 bar) so I think it's safe to go to at least 0.9 bar with normal open loop fuelling.

smaller restrictor would not help at all and will just boost spike, smaller pills may be used when mapping only.

10.8 psi is .74 bar 14 psi is .96 16 psi is 1.1 bar.

The Polarperformance chip is exellent imo, been running one for a year now with no probs, 1.1 bar with a limit of 1.25 iirc. I dont think you will be able to simply fit a MBC as your ecu has a limit where it hits fuel/boost cut ie 0.1-0.2 bar above stock. Hth :thumb:

Would need the version of the PP chip which runs the map for the v.1/2 Wagon's smaller TD04L turbo (unless it's a UKDM v.1/2 Wagon, in which case - curiously - was fitted with the larger TD05H :wonder:).

Another - cheapest - option is to go the MBC route, set to run 1.0bar. But, I'd strongly suggest he gets the A/F checked on a RR, and obviously install an easy-to-read boost gauge near line of sight.

Of course, there is the option of fitting the 260PS rated Z4 ECU too (once again, based on the larger TD05H).

I think I will look at the PP chip for the TD04 wagon and eventually a mappable ECU. It seems stupid to have a decat exhaust and not realise the benefits of it.
