Looking to buy

Hi all.

New here so please go gentle!!

I am in the market for an Impreza as I have always wanted one and they are now more affordable than ever.

I have always been into modifyig my cars heavily and so am looking to get a pretty standard WRX and then do my own thing to it.

I have a few questions that hopefully someone can help with.

I am looking at a 2007 WRX , dealer has reduced the car a fair amount and it can now be mine for £10,500, which I feel is a fair price, 30k on the clock.

I am unsure whether I should go for a WRX or should I get a STI and if so why??

I am trying to price the things I would do straight away and they are as follows.

Fit a decent exhaust.

Get the car tuned/ ecu flashed.

Get a decent rear spoiler.

All help and comments welcome.

Thanks

Michael.

STI as it comes with better things like 6 speed for a start. WRX 5 speed will need a uprated box if you intend to turn over STI.
I would go for STI, you can still do your thing.

I asked the same question a few days ago see thread below....

I decide to go for the STI in the end looking at two this weekend one with the PPP and one without...

WRX and STI tax will be about the same for above 2001. In 2010 if it goes ahead.

if you're going to heavily mod it then I would go with the WRX all day long.

Here's why:
You will be putting a forged 2.5L engine in anyway.
An sti box can be had for £1.5k or you may choose to fit a PPG kit to your original 5 speed.
Other than that there are no real discernable upgrades in the sti to justify the premium over a WRX.
If you intend to just stick to about 350->400ft lbs then go with the sti.

Don't get me wrong, the sti is a fantastic machine, you just need to work out how far you are going to push the car.
If it is further than the limits of the sti engine then you would do well to consider the WRX.

I'd never buy a standard scooby again.

Spent a small fortune tuning/styling my old wrx up to about 320bhp.

For £10,500 you can have a well sorted STI running over 350bhp.

If you inted to mod the car then save a fortune by buying one that's already had an exhaust, filter, fuel pump and remap, that's about £2000 saving already !!!
