Novice dumbo question
 

When I plug in a memory stick to my laptop a 2 tone alert noise sounds but nothing appears on the screen.
Is this right as I thought some information would come on the screen but it is blank.

Windows often detects new hardware and auto plays or opens a file to allow the user to choice what to do with the device (Open files for example). Sometimes, and I am sure someone will help more fully as to why, this does nt happen.
You can either click on the start bar with the right button, and explore to My computer, and select the USB stick from there, or you can search from a left clicked START button.
