car overheating after slidding into curb
 

Hi all, on my way to work this morning i had to steer into a curb to avoid a accident, it was not a major impact as managed to get my speed down just in time anyway when i was warming the car up to go home this afternoon the temp raised up to 3/4 so i turned it off and let it cool down and noticed my coolant level was lower than normal so topped it up and started it up again. After about 5mins if started to raise again so i have left it at work. Also it was parked up all over xmas and for the last two days ive noticed i have to drive the car for a few minutes after first start to get the heater to blow hot as with before it would be really hot during after 2 mins of tickover. Im convinced its the thermostat but would like some opinions on other possibilities before it goes in to be fixed.

My car takes a while to heat up, I just put it down to the cold whether, but in your case seems different especially if you lose coolant. Do the fans kick in?

yeah the fans kick in but the rad was stone cold even with the car at running temp:wonder:

sounds like a possible air lock if your heater is blowing cold air then it could be head gasket related, but then again speak to one of the tuners on here. im sure they will be able to diagnose it for you.

Sounds like stuck thermostat the engine temp goes high but heaters stay cold as this water is shut off by stat happened on my 93 wrx changed stat and was fine .

it turns out that i have a leaky radiator which would answer why i lost coolant and it took longer for hot air to start blowing. Im just glad it was not the head gasket:luxhello:
