Is there a way to check if the MAF is Fubar'd?

Is there a way to check the MAF on my V3 Sti?

Cars been sat for a few months in the garage and I'm getting the check engine light on the dash and the error code 23 (two long, three short). I know this usually means the MAF is kaput but could it be anything else? Don't understand why it would fail sat in a clean dry garage?

If I can check it out with a multimeter somehow just to be certain it is knackered.

Thanks

Hi mate, going from experience, before shelling out I would perform a thorough check of all inlet pipe work, this may involve removing the inlet manifold to check the turbo inlet pipe. When I finally checked mine properly I found a big tear where it joins the turbo that couldn't be found previously.

Yeah. check with multimeter. At idle, IIRC, the output voltage should be between circa 0 and 1V, and at WOT then about 5V.

If you get erroneous readings, then to confirm, disconnect the MAF electrical connector. If the engine's idle doesn't drop and/or stall (i.e. nothing changes), then no doubt a knackered MAF.

Sorted now, cleaned MAF and reset ECU and let the engine run for some time. It hasn't been run since summer so either dusty MAF or a connection needing cleaned.
