Smell of oil.

Starting to notice this a bit more. When I have a spirited drive then slow down to a crawl or an idle I can get a faint smell of oil coming through the centre dash vents.

There is no smell of oil on a normal drive or idle, just a spirited drive.
Ive checked the oil level, it sits just above the 3/4 mark. Ive removed and checked the maf for any oil in it and thats clean. Removed the front mount intetcooler pipes and they are clean.

The car has never used any oil since Ive owned it, there is no leaks to be found. Im just wondering if its anything to do with the front mount oil cooler thats fitted.

hi mate

have you checked the cam cover gaskets??i've just had mine changed as i was getting the same oil smell when comin to a stop, what happens is oil drips onto the manifold and thats were your oil smell comes from.

hope that helps

worth checking

have just had this problem in last 3 days , checked today (on ramp) found the rubber pipe from turbo to sump(think) is loose and leaking,,its behind the turbo so you need to be below car to see it ..

try that

My car has also just developed this (slight) issue aswell! I was going to check for a breather system blockage or collapsed hose, but I'll start with the return hose from the turbo and the cambox cover gaskets first, top advice! :thumb:

rocker cover gasket on the drivers side it drips onto the up pipe, just waiting for subaru to deliver mine, if it is the rocker gasket use subaru ones others end up leaking again after a few k

Thanks for the advice guys. Ive put a white sheet under the car to see if anything drips. Im not planning to use the car in the next fews days anyway, so lets see what happens

If it is the rocker cover gasket, is it an easy job to do myself. Im not a total nob but I do have a limit at this stuff.
