Joy. I'm on what is possibly the most important promotion course of my career next month.

I'm going to be freezing my tits off. :(

I managed to time being on exercise on Salisbury plain in November for a bloody freezing week as well.. it's all punishment for living it large in the US at the tax payers expense in the Summer I guess ;)

what would scooby do 30 December 2008 10:11 PM

Once went up to Braemar for the day - twas -18 - brrrrrrrr.

Only schools in Engerland will be shut - Southern pooftas can't stand the cold.

Better search out the thermals :)

Lowest temp recorded in the UK was -27 in Brrrrraemar.

Been in -20f (-29c) while in Cleveland, OH earlier this year.

It was a pain to have to de ice the car, but it's a different kind of cold, and I never actually felt "that" cold.

Edited to say, Actually I think we changed the cars temp gauge, so the -20, may well have been -20c.

yoza 31 December 2008 09:00 AM

-4 in my truck this morning at 0620hrs.

So I cranked it over and pressed every button with a heat sign on it, then locked it with the spare key and went back in for a coffee.

Toasty and frost free when I went back to it...:D

I know its a risk and attracts thieves, but its out of sight and has a disc lock too.

Its times like now I wish I had a Fuel Fired Heater like those brilliant X types/FreeLanders.

PS. It is too high to fit in the garage.

lozgti 31 December 2008 09:02 AM

My school never shut

Bus that took us had the odd problem with diesel going like jelly or something.

Mind you,I was at school in the days when you used to have that stuff,'snow'.Don't know if anyone remembers it

slipstream_uk 31 December 2008 09:43 AM

Up in Fort William, the other day is was -11. Last night -9.8, on the local radio its forecasting to get even colder in the next few days. On top of that we have had a freezing fog for over a week now, could see next to nowt out there.

Now Im freezing my nuts off, the oil in the central heating froze yesterday, same as several other neighbours around here.

Lee247 31 December 2008 10:47 AM

Supposed to be going to get really cold tonight. Marvellous!! I ran out of heating oil yesterday, no delivery until Friday

ALi-B 31 December 2008 11:11 AM

Bring it on I say, could do with some nice snow for a change :)

My heating is all sorted now (barring the prv) with bigger radiators in the bedrooms so its all good :D

Plus I want to see how a R32 handles in the snow.

Lee247 31 December 2008 11:15 AM

Oi you

We reckon someone has been helping themselves to the oil. His nibs is off to get some araldite (sp) to seal the tank and a padlock for where the delivery hose goes :thumb:

I am back at work on Monday, cycling, have done -5 and it wasn't to bad, the cold is fine as long as there isnt loads of ice, the main problem is that the showers freeze and either let no water through or just a trickle of icy water, washing your male specific areas in that is bracing and renders me effectively female for over an hour :D

njkmrs 31 December 2008 12:39 PM

-13 !!!!!!
thats something serious , schools will close etc , god only knows what will happen

They dont need much excuse to close the schools ,lazy To55ers !!!!!

Any chance they get to have another day off,cos they dont get many .

Teachers that is .:hjtwofing

15000 off everyday, sick .In the paper today .!!!!!!

About 20 mins ago thermometer was showing -4..and it was starting to snow lightly.

Scoobychick 31 December 2008 01:12 PM

Is it just me but I flipping LOVE this weather? Uber cold and dry and no wind, as long as you're wrapped up warm (and haven't run out of heating oil ;)) it's fantastic. Suprisingly I'm a southern woofter too  :D

We spent four days outdoors at Rally Sweden in -20-ish degrees and I LOVED that too albeit that was a much more dry cold. I hate the winter weather when it's warmer and damp, urgh.

Never felt it? I went to Minnesota a couple of years back in January. It was -20 to -25 snow everywhere and I certainly felt it and the locals did not stay out in it. My nasal hairs froze brittle just scraping the ice off the car and if you stayed out in it too long your eyes would start to dry.

Different World when you go somewhere like that and see everyone just gets on with it as if there is no snow or -20. Not even as though it's always cold, they have 80+ degree summers so have all the infrastructure in place for just a couple months of the year when it is bad. I think the lowest they have had it there is around -40 :o Actually having checked it got to -51 C in 1996!

euan_r 31 December 2008 01:47 PM

-13 is not unusual. get a couple of nights like that through out the winter.

not really a problem as i will be inside

hats off to those that live in siberia etc though. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

slipstream_uk 31 December 2008 01:48 PM

Ah luxury heating back on & working again, god you miss it when its off.
Now just got to defrost the out pipe to the washing machine thats frozen now.

Speaking to the local plumber, he has been called out to over 60 house's in the last 24hrs. All to do with their oil freezing. Seems the local supplier has duff oil with water in it. Same thing happened a few winters back, so he says.
