Trying to let me dad connect to my wireless network .. problem is the signal will only reach to his front room..

Strange question but can you can an wireless receive on a long cable ?

USB seems to loose power .. needs to be about 8 meters ...

Something like this?

Linksys.com - Products/Wireless/Basic Networking/Bridges/WET54G

I'd be tempted to use something with Power over Ethernet, tidier.

Over over Ethernet .. like Cabled from the ethernet port to a wireless device?

It would need to be a wireless receiver though ?

Yes, ethernet cable from your PC to a power injector then ethernet cable to your wireless bridge. I quite often run power over a 100 metre cable in this way.

Would this work

DADS PC --wired-- Router ----wireless----- My PC----Wired----Router----Modem

As I have a spare router that can be put in his front room and cabled to the pc in the back .. My Pc has inbuilt wiress ..

Will the Internet pass through ?

JackClark 30 December 2008 03:42 PM

Depends on whether the access point at your Dads' end can act as a bridge.

Log into it and see if you can enable bridge mode.
