monster turbo in rs200 replica (impreza)

hello all, if you have followed some of my threads youll see i am in the process of some big mods, well its time to come clean, its on an rs200 replica, based on a 94 sti but dont worry its not a few bits from a donar impreza, it still has all the floor pan, so its still 4x4, it just has different cloths on.
i always loved the rs200 in the mid 80's and further down my car history i loved the impreza, so when i saw that the rs200 could be put on an impreza, i started saving.

mods on are:-

closed dec block
front mounted intercooler
bigger injectors
H beam con rods
forged pistons
0.5 over bore
v9 crank
5 paddle clutch
3" stainless exhaust (no cats at all, perk on a kit car in MOT)
stainless headers (lots of welding on it now to fit turbo)
twin oil coolers

mods to do are:-

oil catch can
reverse inlet manifold
bottom front left mounted TDO6 25G turbo
external wastegate
parralell fuel lines
top mounted rad
apexi pfc
3 blue under pullies
battery in boot
a lot less i/c piping

as soon as i get the pics sorted ill upload them, lots to do so ill keep you all up to date, and quiz you when im stuck, cheers phil.:thumb:

Always loved these cars. How much did you get the shell for?

thewhitewarrior 29 December 2008 11:17 AM

i gave an impreza to a guy in preston, he got the shell and put it on for £6500, it sound a lot but he did have a lot of metal fabricaton to do. it wasnt a question of money, the fact that it looks like it does and drives like an impreza sold it for me, im sure the shell cost £2800 ish but to line it all up and make the bits to fit it as good as he did, would have took a long time and i dont think i could have done it, he does it for a living so he knows what hes doing, here is a few more pics of the work so far,

scoobynutta555 29 December 2008 11:23 AM

Sounds quite good to me. Judging the price and the horrendous look of the new car (Impreza) your way is quite cheap for a better looking product!

Tim W 29 December 2008 12:05 PM

Please tell me you've relocated the engine loom from the position it's sitting in on the pic of the turbo!

We spent a happy day at the Time Attack held at Brands re-wiring the engine cross loom that had met with a 'wrapped' exhaust manifold, twice...it was not fun

dazdavies 29 December 2008 12:56 PM

Fantastic!!
I thought about doing this a few years ago but thought the cost would be prohibitive.

Would love to see some more detailed pics of the whole build mate :)

Please tell me you've got a roll cage though???

Death trap without one IMO

trails 29 December 2008 01:25 PM

ditto what Tim said, I melted some of my loom with just 4-2-1 headers let alone a blower in that position.

Looks fantastic btw :)

dnc 29 December 2008 01:28 PM

Looks nice WW. Take it the plate is what your'e hoping to acieve :thumb: . Great combination with the scooby burble (assuming unequal headers) plus RS shell lol. Keep us updated.

Might be difficult getting the Oil return back to the sump - or are you looking at going Dry-Sump?

Russell

scoobyboy1 29 December 2008 03:25 PM

Ive actually seen this car parked up on a drive somewhere on my travels round the country im guessing round Derby somewhere judging by your location(remembered the numberplate) I thought you was mad parking a RS200 on a drive(thought it was a original)

Anyway good project!!!!!!:thumb:

tanyatriangles 29 December 2008 03:51 PM

Looks good, I always loved the RS200.

I take it it's now front engined, though? What's the rear suspension like? And does it have a boot where the engine WOULD have been?

I too would appreciate some detailed build, interior etc shots;)

Arab1 29 December 2008 03:55 PM

Well done so far, looks like a great project :thumb:

M535I 29 December 2008 05:32 PM

fu#king stunning mate !

thewhitewarrior 29 December 2008 06:33 PM

blimey, you have been busy, thanks very much for all the support, to answer a few of your questions, yes there is a full roll cage in it, it goes all through the car even into the wings too.
the suspension is fully adjustable so i copes with what i give it, i cant get it any lower as the drive shafts will hit the chassis, so im stuck with the hight but they were high anyway.
as for the oil return on the turbo, ive been talking with jolly green monster, and may put in a pump to return it to the sump.
i havent dont anything about the loom, i nevery even thought about it, but yes i will be rerouting it far far out the way, thanks for pointing it out.

here are the only pics i have of the car whilst in preston, i have photos of the rest but i havent got any on a camera or pc, sorry.

ill go on the banham200 website for more of the build pics, if i can find them...

tanyatriangles 29 December 2008 06:45 PM

Ah...........Banham, slightly put off then. Their original RS200 kitcar from an MG Maestro was awful. looked hump-backed and also looked FAR too high.

I had a copy of the instructions on video, also awful.

I was always going to make one from the old kit that used a Sierra Cossie 2wd, but never had the dosh. They looked soooooooo real, engine in the rear, twin strut suspension at the rear, just lovely, plus the interior was pure RS200 too as it used Sierra parts;)

Can't remember the name of the company that did it, but it was something like RSCars. They've gone now........:(

tanyatriangles 29 December 2008 06:50 PM

Do you have a link to their website, all I can find is links to their original RS200 from a Maestro.........

Connor_scotland 29 December 2008 07:20 PM

Thats awesome

G-string 29 December 2008 10:10 PM

Fair play mate, lovely.

Jamo 30 December 2008 10:03 AM

thewhitewarrior 30 December 2008 10:33 AM

thanks very much, im supprised you havent seen me already, ive been on the road for about a year, ive been to some of the midland scooby meets at the bubble too, what you driving? ill keep an eye out for you when im back on the road.
the engine in the picture has the cross hatchings on and its a closed dec too, if im right its an sti engine, but i could be wrong.:D

KLR16V 30 December 2008 12:17 PM

rs200 replica

This is the make of the one my mate has , they have been bought out a may be starting building again if enough interest . Uses all cossy bits and renault gear box rear engined .

Mark

Area 52 Autosport 30 December 2008 01:16 PM

Cool project :)

We did a 2.5 conversion on one of these earlier in the year, certainly attracted alot of attention out on the road. Not sure who's kit it was but the rear tail gate section was so heavy it was untrue  Having the roll bar resting on my ear during mapping was a little disconcerting too...

Mini sump & pump for the turbo drain would be a good idea.

Jase.
