Quick question please,
I know I have to tell my insurance that I am having one fitted (just the back box at this stage, fitted by the dealer ), but do I declare it as a performance upgrade or not, sorry if this has been done before, but as you can see I'm new to this.

Thanks Steve.

Steve - there's an insurance section to the bbs...not sure if it's talked about in there...

I declared it to Tesco's - think they just made a note of it, they knew what it was as well, I was quite impressed!... :)

Jen,

I also declared a ss bb to tesco who wanted £223 about a 15% increase in my premium. When I told them that the performance increase was negligible they said it does not matter. Did you speak to the underwriters for them not to increase your premium?
Also Tesco did not want any more if I was going to do the DP and centre + air filter still just £223 very odd.

Tesco's plonked an extra 200 notes on for my prodrive backbox...

?!?!!?

Really?! Oh. I declared the Scoobysport backbox and the Prodrive quickshift = no change, it was only the alloy wheels that put the policy up £400!! They did speak to the underwriters about it as well...nice on "hold" music.

I spoke to them on at the end of Jan about it...could they have changed the policy? When asked if it was performance I said probably not much really (which is probably true).

Not sure I can help much - maybe get them to review it? I think they entered it as mainly consmetic although I'll check when I get home tonight...

my car is insured by my firm so i dont suffer this- i cant belive you are paying £200+ to put £200 BB on a car??????

must drive you mad!

Tiggs

ps- anyone EVER known of an insurance company not pay out for a writeoff because of a BB they didnt know about (not suggesting you dont tell them but you can see why most people dont bother)

I'm with Axa (cheaper than tescos by about £300 for me), and adding a Scoobysport bb to my UK STi made no difference at all :D

I recently added a Scoobysport backbox to my 5 door wagon .. about 1 month ago :) :) (sounds great but has become less noisy than on fitting on day 1)

Tesco wanted an additional 13 quid (for 6 months I think) and it has performance exhaust detailed on my insurance doc.

They asked about BHP gains and I quoted 5-8 BHP ..

Just for information.

Doofus.

Thanks for the info everyone, I will give Tesco and Axa a try, spoke to Scoobysport today and they said the BB was worth an extra 20 bhp on the STi !!!!, more than I would have thought, but what do I know.

thanks again Steve.
