How much power are you running on stock internals?

Hi,

How much bhp & torque are you running on your stock STI bottom end and how many road/track miles have you covered?

Trackhound 24 December 2008 06:12 PM

I was running 380 bhp on oem wrx pistons right up to the point I cracked a ring land.

How long did it last at that power?

Shaun 24 December 2008 06:32 PM

380bhp on my original Spec C engine. Did plenty of competition and track use.... never had one single problem and the engine was 100% when it was removed.

Scoobytyson on here is running 420bhp on his totally standard Spec C engine, and does plenty of 1/4m runs and sprint events.

I have a customer with a stock STi8 engine @ 455bhp and 410lbft and another @ 432bhp and 425lbft on its last dyno day.
Both of these have been perfectly reliable for over a year since they were first mapped and have done numerous RYWB events.

Fair number in mid 400s.
Not aware of any failures.

I'm assuming this thread is not referring to any of the classic CDB's?

But just newages with SCB's?

Harryr34 24 December 2008 11:16 PM

I am referring to the newage STI's.

I am planning to run 10% methanol+vpower in my UK STI8.

Full spec:
  • MD321H turbo
  • Kakumei GT spec headers & 3" turbo back exhaust
  • Hybrid FMIC & Induction kit
  • Simtek ecu
  • Apexi AVCR
  • PE 650cc injectors
  • Walbro 255lph fuel pump
  • Defi boost, oil temp/press. gauges
  • K Sport 356mm 8 pot front brake setup
  • Apex BC coilovers
  • Whiteline 24mm rear ARB
  • 19" OZ superleggra wheels/ Toyo proxes t1r tyres
  • Bride seats

Can't wait to get it mapped :) :luxhello:

Thanks
Merry christmas to all fellow SN members
Haroon

It's a good spec Harry - not to sure why you still want to keep the AVCR though as surely the simtec elimates the need for this?

Although the 3 port boost solenoid is an unmarked Perrin item which is a very good bit of kit, me personally don't think you need it. My 2p's worth.

Merry Xmas to all as there's only 5 minutes left.

before i went forged my std 2.0l engine was running 418bhp loads of full bore drag launches and heavy driving never missed a beat never used any oil and never let me down.really good engines imo.

Rocko_01 26 December 2008 12:37 PM

Well this threed answers my question.... been as ime goin for 400 + in the new year ...

2004 sti WR1

But expect the unexpected i surpose

How long will the clutch last tho ... ?

G.Mac 26 December 2008 01:00 PM

I ran 370bhp / 360 lbs-ft for two years without a problem on my 05 sti 2L, I am now running approx 430bhp / 407 lbs-ft, still no problems
I have a mate who runs about 430 - 440 bhp on his standard road fuel and about the 500 mark when using his scottymax mix in a bugeye spec c again with no problems my car has done 37K, about 30K at over 350bhp and coming up to 1K on over 400bhp
Im on my 3rd clutch:lol1: standard lasted 14.5K, exedy organic lasted about 19k now onto an exedy hyper twin plate comp D clutch

I recon the 2L newage engines should be good for 500ish as long as you have got the correct supporting mods and your fueling is spot on (but I am no expert, just from what I have been seeing)
