E46 M3 or evo 8? Costs

Hi guys my focus is currently for sale and im looking at either of the above cars. Anyone who has owned both/pro's/cons of both???. Would be looking at 260 model evo or fq300. Are running costs gonna be similar?

I've not owned either but I was looking at getting an EVO before I got the scoob. I would assume that the EVO would be more expensive, it has to be serviced every 4500 miles ..... assuming this is more than the M3 but sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

dont get the 260 its not a proper EVO :lol1: get the fq 300. runing costs depend on how you use it. go on the mlr and they have a running cost calculator tells you what sort of money your looking at for a years running.

Mitsubishi site says 10,000 miles service intervals same as the STI:

Mitsubishi-Motors/Evolution X - Specifications

SERVICING/INSURANCE/WARRANTY
Service intervals Every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first. Initial 1000 mile lubrication service necessary on all Lancer Evolution models

Also the fuel tank is 55ltrs these days:

WEIGHTS/VOLUMES
Fuel tank capacity lts (imp.galls) 55 (12.1)

Cheers

I have an Evo 8 FQ300 and I would say it's about the same as an M3 overall in terms of cost - parts more, tyres less, depreciation less, 23mpg for me.

If you're doing less than 6000 miles annually and more A roads than motorway then the argument for the Evo becomes stronger.

If you want a decent turning circle, don't go for the Evo!

I had an E46 M3 that I rapidly got bored of then got an Evo IX.

Economy was the same, Evo has had no faults, M3 had niggles. Evo cheaper to service at independents, but needs more frequent servicing. Evo parts are generally cheaper than M3 parts, Evo is kinder to tyres, much more fun to drive, but noisier and doesn't look nice inside.

To bring a 260 or 8 alive you need to change the cams and turbine housing. The 9 does 400 BHP with just an exhaust, fuel pump, remap, airbox mod, 500 BHP if you change the turbo, intercooler, cams, injectors.

M3 is not a good winter car.

Neither car has been expensive to run though.

Sorry just realised you said Evo 8 so my post about the X was pointless :)
