Christmas food shopping, mostly done!

We've just got back from doing out Christmas food shop. Pleasently surprised when we turned up at Sainsbury's this morning at 9.30, they were letting people in! (tills not open until 10) We had a good 45 mins before all of a sudden it was heaving in there. £226  lighter we emerged to the car park and there were literally no parking spots left and cars everywhere.

I feel sorry for anyoine just about to go and do their shop today, it'll be a nightmare with the shelves picked clean by panicers:lol1:

what would scooby do 21 December 2008 11:26 AM

feck, I forgot this was the last real shopping day for the great unwashed..

.. wanted to pop out and get a few bits and bobs

Scoobychick 21 December 2008 11:29 AM

I've just got some fresh veggies to get, Christmas is going to be a pretty low key affair here after last year's spending extravaganza, I've still got stuff in the cupboard that I bought for last year :o

Plus I know that my mum & dad will arrive here laden with goodies :king:

Her indoors is doing the last bit as we speak, whilst I'm "busy" in work today.

Sal is Mr and Mrs DG bringing some wellies and a rubber duck?

Seasons greatings to Bob, yourself, and Mr and Mrs DG.

Not to worry, I'm sure your local corner shop sells Pot Noodles and cheap cider:p

It'll either be a picnic on the beach or spark up the BBQ or maybe both:thumb:

Chrimbo wearing shorts and needing air con is a still a concept that's a bit strange, even after 4 years.

Boxing Day we're off to South West WA (Margaret River etc) - wine country. Oh bugger:D

Kieran_Burns 21 December 2008 12:25 PM

I'm going LATE Monday night (think Midnight ish). It's always quiet then and you only have to avoid the shelf stackers. I'll have me list ready and will aim to be in and out in 30 mins tops

Got room for one more? :wonder: If I left now I could be there just in time ;) :D

We are risking it this year, Waiting until Tuesday and going to M&S to try and scoop up some bargains.

scoobynutta555 21 December 2008 12:42 PM

I like to do my shopping in the early hours of the morning, but with 2 kids under 2 this would be a nightmare. We opted for this morning on the spur of the moment.

Now that is something that really pisses me off about Perth. Late Monday night shopping would be 5.30pm.
In general supermarkets shut at 6pm during the week (except Thursday where it's 9pm) and 5pm on Saturdays. Sunday shopping? Nothing doing unless it's the 2/3 weekends leading up to Christmas.
Don't get me wrong, I love this place but in some ways Perth (and don't even think about regional WA) is so backward it's laughable.

I spent Christmas in Perth in 2000, it was 45 degrees on Xmas Day, but we still had Roast Turkey, I even took bread sauce mixture in my case with me !! Slightly surreal.......

Then we went to Mount Barker and Margaret River for a very blurry 3 days drinking lots of wine.....

I am sure you will have fun !!

PaulC72 21 December 2008 04:31 PM

I know people may be feeding some extra family over the 2 days, but how many people does £226 feed :freak3: I got most of our stuff in last weeks normal shop and that came to £55, including last weeks usual shop, and intend to be out of Asda by 5.30am on Tuesday morning in time to meet my butcher opening his doors. Home by 6am and finished.

scoobynutta555 22 December 2008 01:41 PM

That's for food and drink, 4 adults and 2 kids for 2 days. Champagne, whiskey, Baileys, beers, wine and spirits plus food and soft drinks. Quite cheap.

Coffin Dodger 22 December 2008 01:49 PM

At the outlaws for Christmas Eve / Day and then to my folks for the weekend so no big shop for us :D

Did nip into Sainsburys at lunchtime for a couple of last minute pressies and it was manic though mostly caused by confused old folk dithering in the aisles and not paying attention the where their trolleys were. I had a basket so was ducking and diving :D Got checked out fairly quick though :D

Tescos express is open on Boxing day, so the shops are only closed for 1 day. All I worry about is alcohol.... I've 6 bottles of champers, 6 x 1ltr Bacardi, 24 x 1 ltr diet cokes and a shed full of Guiness and Stella....:D
