Fitting Single Din and 'Pocket'

I'm thinking of buying a single DIN stereo and one of the 'Pocket' things, as I will probably hide my AVCR in there.

Is it a hard job to do? Or literally remove the original stereo, and slip the new single din and pocket in? Or do you have to remove a lot of the dash etc? Any guides? :norty:

Thanks

EDIT: Thinking about it, do the AVCR's fit in the Pockets?

Dead simple on an 02 bugeye, just pop out the cup holder and undo the screws, pull the frame and holder out, stick a finger in the hole there's a flap/clip holding it in.
Next pull off the upper air vents, then the stereo surround, you have to pull quite (my god will I break it) hard!. Undo the screws holding the stereo brackets to the dashboard - pull out the stereo unscrew the brackets and replace with your stereo and the holder. You may need to make extra hole in the brackets for the stereo and the holder to make sure they line up properly.

It's piece of cake mate ! Really easy as posted above and one of the best, simplest mods I have seen. Bought mine from RCM and they include instructions which tell you where to drill.

Wish I'd had those instructions! My brackets look like swiss cheese!

Why take out cup holders and vents etc? if you press your cup holder so it pops out then just get your finger in there and pull the plastic surround off (the one that goes round your heater controls etc) it's fixed in each corner so needs to pop 4 times.

As the other guys sais just unscrew everything holding your standard stereo in and remove the plates that are fixed to the side of it.

The plates need to be fixed to the side of your new single din stereo and to the side of the pocked, it'll take some trial and error to get it all lined up properly but not too bad of a job to do :thumb:

I bought my single din pocket from subaru and the holes lined up with the original brackets on both the stereo and the pocket, so no drilling required, only other things I needed where subaru to din wiring harness and a din ariel adaptor, both came to about £11. I even still used the original screws from the double din unit on both pocket and stereo.

I always wondered if the lower panel would come out with removing the upper part should save some time next time something comes loose behind it all!

I had to drill ne holes in my brackets to get the pocket to fit flush and for my stereo, the original hole gave me an acceptable fit but not a perfect fit! My stereo is recessed slightly do to it's design (JVC K551) and the pocket has been modified to take the iPod that is connected via the interface hidden behind the heater controls.
