djsp1 18 February 2002 06:36 PM

must be good for a diesel?

Ian Cook 18 February 2002 06:42 PM

its a 2.5 V6 diesel produces 180bhp, fairly flippin quick, for a diesel! 0-60 in 8.6 seconds, top speed of 140mph !

Was at a track day yesterday, and a diesel was one of the fastest cars there!!!

MKII with a GT TDI PD engine making 170bhp, it was feckin' quick!!
Some of the scoobs had trouble keeping up :D

My neighbour works for Audi. He brings home just about any Audi he likes (S6 Quattro the other day) whenever he likes.

His favourite - A4 2.5TDi Quattro.

I had a go and it was a nice car. Just don't open the window. Sounds like a Transit van on the outside though. The damn thing wakes me up in the mornings when he has to leave early. Makes me feel comfortable with the noisy exhaust on my P1 though.

Kurt

Lol a topic which has a diesel frightening Scoobys...LMAO..:D

FreeT 18 February 2002 09:06 PM

You may laugh but Audis new TDi quatro next year is to be around 220bhp and 350lb/ft. So watch out there a fast noisy diesel about.

Diesel is becoming very competative and it is rumoured that mercedes is to bring out a range topping 360bhp diesel next year. If thats not scary then think that its torque will be in the order of about 550lb/ft. from 1900rpm

DaveS6 19 February 2002 08:08 AM

those Audi diseals are very torque-y.. that's why they can seem so fast.. the way to beat them is to give it plenty of revs. the diseals run out of steam at about 4500rpm and so need to change up.. so give it plenty and you shouldn't have a problem

I owned a few diesels, none to shabby either (especially when they've got a turbo assisting them). The reason I went back to petrol engines, was the servicing intervals/rising diesel costs vs petrol costs/servicing intervals and my mileage.

It's all well and good getting these high powered diesels, but with the Government raising the price of diesel through the roof (more so than petrol). It hadly seems the extra cost.

Then I go buy a scooby. What was I thinking!!!!

I swapped my STI5 TypeR V-ltd for a Scooby humbling Diesel! ;) Wouldn't ever have another Subaru above my 330d. What a fabulous car. There's even a rumour that it's quicker around the Nurburgring that a number of Imprezas. But then until you've swallowed your Impreza pride and actually been out in it, you'd never know. ;)

Oh, and on the motorway from 80 - 110 the Beemer is quicker than even a nicely modded UK Impreza. It's not as quick as a P1 though!

Oh, and did I mention the average mpg of 39.2? :D:D:D:D

Hijack:

Matt, would you still do it if you only did about 10k miles a year on not many motorways, and bought your own car and fuel? It seems the 330d gets great write-ups because of comparative economy, and is a bit more refined than a scoob. Methinks I'll get one in my late 30s but not now in my early 30s!

FreeT 19 February 2002 03:44 PM

And when your in yer 40s get a merc c270cdi and in yer 50's get a merc e320cdi. I 2 am into 30s and will be getting new my02 soon unless i can trace a cheap uk import sti7.

I've had disels recently too and grea tfor lazy driving - accelerate in just about any gear from 1500rpm onwards, but it just isn't the same and only way to get fun is by blasting away from boyracers up hills with all that torque.
