Boot Seal

Well I've still go a leak in my boot. I thought it was the spoiler, so removed it and used loads of silicone around the bolts etc, but it hasnt worked.

Next step is the boot seal!!

How much are these from the dealers? Also, mine seems to be stuck on at the moment, so can I easily rip it off....and what should I stick it back on with?

Thanks a lot
Chris

Same as mine mate. Spent ages pratting round with looking for water coming in around the lights, spoiler etc, only to find that the seal wasn't sitting tight enough, and the water was tracking underneath like a bloody river.
I need to find the price for mine as well, a 97 classic.

WTF Joz?

Yeah, I think it must be the seal now. I didnt think it was at first, but like you said i dont think its tight enough.

Mines an 03 Blob by the way.

Chris

Boot seals are coming in at £40 from main dealers. I had the same problem with my '06 Blob', cured it with the new seal.

Make sure you remove all the sealant from the boot lip before fitting the new seal and run a bead of fresh sikaflex into the seal before fitting, just to be sure.:thumb:

Cheers mate! Thats exactly what I was after! Wasn't sure about the old sealant/adding new stuff etc.

Thanks!

Except that I'd NOT use Sikaflex/Tigerseal, I'd use this stuff:
Carafax Products - Sealant Solutions

IDL 99 is the stuff;)

chrisdicko 16 December 2008 07:48 PM

Whats wrong with sikaflex etc? I'd have probably used silicone

would taking the old one off and just wacking a load of sealent round it not do the job?

think thats what ill do on my classic

Why this stuff over the others? Looking at the websites sikaflex is a marine usage one which should be very waterproof and are both any better than an all weather sealant?

Cheers

I put some sealant around mine on my classic, but the water is still bloody tracking under it. Just phoned the local scoob stealership, £52.44 for a new seal! Wtf?!
Where do you buy silkaflex then?
