NF Octane Booster

Hi,

I have read a few threads and just want to confirm the correct amount of NF Racing forumla to use.

Its going into a jap imported STI 98 v4. which is std. running Tesco 99 or v-power.

From my research i should be using 1-2ml per liter, entered before filling the tank.

If this is correct i think ill run a tank through before the track on sunday.

I hear good things. Do i need to D/C the bat to reset the ECU to get major benefit from this?

Thanks
Chris

Can't remember the ml of the bottle but basically if you add a third of the bottle to a tankful of fuel, it gives you a whole extra 2 full RON (6 RON for the whole bottle)... e.g. V-Power 99 > 101 RON.

The bottle costs about £12.50, so you're only adding about £4.20 on top of your fillu-ups.

Coincidentally... https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...el-brands.html

Ok. Is all v-power in the uk 99 ron? my station doesnt have a ron rating.

Also the bottles says to not reuse untill ive put 2-3 tanks through. So the next 1/3rd of the bottle should not be used more than after the first untill 3 tanks of fuel later?.

V-Power, I beleive, is 98.6 RON... so all but 99. A third of a bottle of NF added to a tankful will still give you 100.6 then, so bringing the fuel in-line with the JDM anyway, so you're good to go.

Re the octane booster - you are talking about the black bottled stuff, right?: Roger Clark Motorsport - RCM Product Detail

If so, I'm sure it's designed to be okay for continuous use in catted cars (the cat/s would be the reason for the '"every third tank" advice), so you can use it every tankful. I stand to be corrected though.

...:wonder: That said thogjh, the description does mention about valve seat protection too, which would normally indicate lead content  - i.e. not good for cats.

I'm sure someone else will be along soon to set you right...

The bottle is 300 mls.
If you are not mapped for it, adding NF may allow your ECU to learn maximum advance IF fuel octane has been a previous restricting factor.
Adding NF to the fuel will certainly add a safety factor.
If you are going to add it and map for it then you need to make consistent accurate additions and require some form of measuring cup.
At 1ml/litre it is possible to add more ignition advance and at 2 ml/litre, even more. After 3ml/litre any gains are questionable.
At 1ml/litre a bottle treats 300 litres of fuel.

harvey, in a similar vain to your post, I've got my 1993 WRX's PFC mapped by on Esso SUL 97 RON... BUT... I use V-Power 99 whenever possible.

I take it that although I shouldn't see any more power when using V-Power (due to the ignition timing being optimised for 97 and the PFC having no IAM-type feature) will, though, its extra octane give me some protective 'headroom', should conditions for detonation arise? Is this a fair stragegy of mine (paranoid about big end going via det, lol)... or is it flawed thinking?

Sensible thinking IMO.

Cheers Duncan. That's how I see it too.

You are adding safety but I would tend to map the car on V-Power if it is readily available in your area and carry out the mapping with say no NF or 1ml per litre and after the mapping start running on 1ml per litre or 2ml per litre ie. 1ml per litre more than it was mapped on. There may be little difference between Esso Super and V-Power but from experience I know there are big differences between BP Super and V-Power and even more differences with Tesco 99 and V-Power.
I have found that if a car is unused for some time the fuel seems to go off and there is a greater possibility of DET until a fresh tank is run. As a matter of course I attempt to run all the fuel in one tank before a refil so I can generally pick up 54-60 litres at any one time. Having a Shell station less than half a mile away does help.

I can't be bothered with boosters and am not bothered by getting max power by mapping on V-Power. I'm more concerned about det, that's why I got it mapped on Esso 97, but use V-Power... But I hear what you're saying about stale fuel, bad batch, etc.

That said, I DO have a V-Power station at just over 4 miles from work and home, and it is always very busy i.e. the large throughput should ensure that the fuel doesn't have chance to go off in the underground tanks.
