Is there a device that will allow me to share a printer between two machines. I don't want to mess about and network the PC's together.
cheers Jeremy |
yep- any PC shop will sell the little box thing that they both plug into.

Jer,
Don't use the manual switchboxes with laser printers as they've been known to blow the parallel interface in the past. Best best is with an automatic box for the extra cost. Stefan |
I've got an automatic one that you can have for £40.00
Allows up to 4 PCs to share one printer, with seamless switching between devices and FIFO queuing. Similar to this one [Edited by Figment - 2/18/2002 1:00:05 PM] |
Dont overlook the obvious solutions either ;) if the printer has both USB and Parallel connectors you can already use it from 2 PCs.
"Mess about networking" 2x £10 Cards + 1 £5 Cable and about 30 mins effort from scratch should have it sorted. :) Deano |
Can I have one computer attached via USB (the new PC) And one on the parallel port (the old PC) can I print from both PCs without unplugging the other.
Cheers Jeremy |
In most cases, yes, but some printers will not work with both cables attached
|
If it does work with both cables connected you may still find that prints from the two PCs are interspersed. At best a page from one PC in the middle of a print from the other, at worst bits from both PCs on the same page.
