which engine should i get??

I've blown the engine on my 95 - 96 classic WRX.
Its totally STD.
what engine should I replace it with?? WRX or STI..
I can only afford the engine, will have to transfere all the ancillaries.
can replace bits after crimbo, but it needs to work with existing manifolds, ecu / electrics and flywheel for now.

Any advice / links to similar posts etc would help loads.

If you can only afford the engine then replace like for like, or have a rebuild depending on the damage done to your original one, buying second hand engines comes with its own problems, mainly being you dont know the sort of mileage its done and how its been serviced/treated.

If I was to go for an STI what ancilliaries would i have to source??
I had planned to start moddin the car next year, but for now I need it running.

Get the better STi or Legacy TT base engine for the same phase, rebuild using your ancilleries and then take advantage of the stronger engine later when you have the money, you can get a Legacy long engine for about £550 and its almost to STi spec!
