Brakes sticking on a P1 while not in use..
 

Hey.. clearly i don't post on here enough, i only seem to show my face when i have a problem! I'm always in the background though! I would search but having trouble with the search bar..


Ok problem is i have a P1 in storage over winter, i start and warm it once a week to keep it all in order, but i have noticed now the brakes are starting to lock on, i do run it backwards and forwards to make sure they don't completly seize- happened to a mate. But why are they doing it, and how can i stop it? i was planning on over-hauling the calipers while it was standing, do you reckon this will sort it?

Also is there a re-build kit of some sorts for the handbrake drums in the rear discs? some pins have come loose and now a plate in the drum always comes loose and rattles round.

Could try just leaving it in gear and not using the handbrake?

The handbrake isn't on, it is just in gear. humm.

Is it the front 4 pots that are sticking? If so its a common problem. It happened with my 1999 RB5 so i took the calipers off ans sent them to Ian at Godspeed Motorsport....he will do an exchange deal with you and in return you will get agood as new set of calipers painted in whatever colour you like:norty: ....give Ian a bell and see what he can offer, maybe a bigger upgrade:wonder: ....i have the Godspeed 335mm kit, its very good too:luxhello:

take them off and use copper grease on the pins and back of pads. apply it to all moving parts except the front of pads and discs. also check the piston itself make sure its not sticking or getting siezed, check for leaks and wear on the dust rubber around the pistons. if the grease works to much cheaper than new calipers, even if exchanged

The brakes on my Classic Wagon bind on when it has sat for a week or so. Like you I do not apply the handbrake but it still happens. It seems to be worse during the winter months. The same can happen if I wash the car and leave it parked without drying the brakes on a short run.

Excuse my lack of technical knowledge but I suspect there may be a chemical reaction on the pad surface caused by the air, moisture and temperature combination resulting in the pad binding slightly to the disc surface.

I would agree with mje_wrx regarding the use of copper grease to help ease the rattling you have mentioned. This cured the rattling on my rear brakes.

ok cheers... except the rattling was coming from a plate that had completly come loose in the rear drum.

will give me summat to do over the weekend!
