thanks for the link but i was thinking of fitting the wrx intercooler not the sti one
is it worth doing |
a fmic would be easier i put the link up as the fitting is similar but it all depends on what other mods you're doing and what power you want tbh

Having compared a newage wrx tmic, they are the same depth as a 98/99 tmic but wider instead. The newage sti tmic is longer in depth, so you will have issue's with bulkhead clearance. Most people who have fitted them have phase 1.5 or 2 inlet manifolds.
You will still have a problem with the dv connection point on the later tmic to clear the iscv. So you may have to modify that area of the tmic, similar to what others have done when fitting 98/00 tmic to pre96 (phase 1)inlet manifold. There are plenty of threads for that mod, depends on where you mount your dv and how much diy you want to do? But its not that difficult. imo there is more or less the same amount of work in fitting a fmic, there cutting the front bumper, cutting the inner wing for the pipe work plus the dv will need extra hoses if you decide to recirculate, unless you go vta. |
...Following on from ticky's advice:-
Although the below link is for a New Age TMIC to fit the v.3/4 phase 1.5 IM (and not the v.1/2), at least it illustrates the sort of palava you have to go through if you want to retain the OEM recirc dv (which will now have a long route over the top of the engine to the turbo intake elbow, by way of a long silicone hose and an ally joiner 'sleeve', of appropriate diameters)... cheers guys i will not be going fmic
