...that is fairly heavily modifed for handling and power and currently running about a 25% increase over standard.
Sti VII - what a fabulous car - and this only has 261bhp and is supposedly lardy compared to the Sti V. Sti VII is agile with superb steering, weightier than the StiV, very precise. good but not Exige type feedback. Power was surprisingly good, although clearly not as quick as the modified Sti V. Six speed box is good, not a perfect change, feels much less mechanical than the STi V, good ratios, 6th is very long, possibly 1st is a little short. Sti VII Brakes on the road were up to matching AP 6pots in general use, slightly overservoed but still very good. Pedal feel was good. But the best bit, and it is one of the very, very best, is the chassis. I have driven WRXs and thought they were OK, good and stiff but was it enough. The Sti VII chassis is truly excellent, the way the car moves through corners is very special indeed, almost as agile as an Evo VI, but will travel much quicker over real road surfaces. The trick front diff is excellent, tows the cars into corners. Interesting to see how it works on track, an heavy understeerer? Well, if it is true that there will be a warrantied 305bhp machine then they can take my order now! I would buy a standard one but that would mean reshuffling the fleet - with the extra 40bhp I would go the trouble to make space. Superb car, a distance ahead of the WRX, try one, buy one.
