Cornelius 01 December 2008 03:43 PM

I work in Laindon, and regularly see apaches and chinooks fly over head (Say no more :D)

WRX_Dazza 01 December 2008 03:44 PM

[awaits shooting down by an apache engineer]

See em alot out our way too.

The ultimate big boys toy :D

stuart n 01 December 2008 05:37 PM

We get them over this sometimes although nowhere near as much as the Lynx.
There was one doing circuits of Earls Colne airfield last week :luxhello:

TomR555 01 December 2008 07:47 PM

Could it be the interceptors have a new toy :wonder: :norty:

I was up at a golf driving range near Stanstead with a couple of mates last Thursday and one blasted overhead (needless to say, he was quite safe with our golfing prowess!)

Apparently they stop off at Stanstead to refuel and are a regular sight around there.

The do look scary in the flesh!

But they're both slower than the The Westland Lynx ZB500!

(and no other helicopter can ever beat it :luxhello: )*

*Keep in mind that the maximum speed a rotor helicopter can reach, in theory, before spinning out of control is just over 250 miles per hour.

Now that you know that, at an European air show on August 6, 1986 a Westland Lynx ZB500, that was slightly modified, reached a speed of 249.1 miles per hour or 400.8 km/h, making it the world's fastest helicopter.

chinooks are seen on a regular basis circling around my work/ tower bridge area, by all accounts (and this is only what we have been told) it's SAS doing some practice runs.

Cheers Mark...

I've had the pleasure of serving with these boy's and girls for a while and they are one of the best units in the world :notworthy

stuart n 04 December 2008 03:24 PM

They are based at Wattisham airfield though.

Mills 04 December 2008 05:19 PM

See plenty of that stuff today in Colchester! Was at Goojerat Barracks doing my pre-selection :D .

Cornelius 04 December 2008 05:39 PM

Another Chinoock flew over head today, quite low too, the thumping from the rotors were shaking the building:D

yellowvanman 06 December 2008 10:16 AM

Have just finished reading a book by one of their pilots Ed Macey, Apache.

To fly one of these things is just unbelievable, the coordination and multi tasking required is near super human, even to the point that each eye works independently with a separate task to perform. (once trained they can even read 2 books simultaneously!:freak3: )

Jaybird-UK 08 December 2008 09:40 PM

I saw 2 together over the A12 :D :D
