400-450bhp is this possible with my spec?

hi i just brought a uk spec impreza that needs work. i have just brought a set of

wiseco forged pistons over bore 92.5mm
eagle rods
arp head bolts
1.3 mental head gaskets
nitrated and cross drilled rear thrusted crank
acl race bearings
VF34 TURBO
550 injectors
polished heads
mocal 16row oil cooler
front mount intercooler
apexi power fc with control

i also have got a 6 speed STI gearbox and uprated clutch.

with the modifications that i've done will i be able to achieve the 400-450bhp that i am looking for??

Pete 29 November 2008 01:33 PM

Turbo is a no no for that power imo...maybe 350-370

WorkInProgress 29 November 2008 01:45 PM

really wot turbo should i be using?

Not a pray on that tiny turbo mate,
Like pete has said more like 350bhp

WorkInProgress 29 November 2008 01:58 PM

yeah thats wot my mechanic said, but as i've always had BMWs i wanted to make sure im doing the right thing. Especially as my mates which still have there BMs are ripping me for buying my impreza.

they wont be laughing when i tear them a new hole!

WorkInProgress 29 November 2008 01:59 PM

ok everyone is say the same thing lol

so my options are ???

evo north 29 November 2008 02:01 PM

Get a turbo like pete has said a md 321h,
Should get you to 400bhp,,
Stock position etc,,

What fmic do you have, if its an e bay special , ditch it and get a good one like a perrins etc

You will probably need bigger injectors aswell

WorkInProgress 29 November 2008 02:04 PM

thanks staffi

from looking at the web page i'll have to change the injectors too :(
the car came with a TD05-20G but i thought that was smaller??

lol no its a autobahn fmic and im have a throttle body made so i can reverse the inlet manifold, thus shortening the pipework and redusing lag

Pete 29 November 2008 02:10 PM

If your budget allows then there,s always the GT3071 or 3076 ROUTE, you,ll see 400+on the 3071 and 450 and above on the 3076, BUT needs to be mapped properly and have ALL good supporting mods too.

There,s also the FP Green turbo that,ll see you your choosen figures..

Pete 29 November 2008 02:28 PM

Yes, you,ve got some nice bits there, i was just speaking out loud, lol, you may need some bigger injectors, who,s building, mapping it for you?? what ECU are you running??

Edited to say,

You,ll need some good stoppers too........:thumb:

i have a apexi power fc at the mo but i think that will be ok? right??
im having it built with a local garage in suffolk ICS the owner has built many impreza's including a 700bhp classic that is to appear in mags soon. he also built the rolls-royce for "The Street". i should trust him but its the frist time im using him and... well you know how it is.

im having it mapped at clive athowe in norwich. they lads there are brilliant

With that spec you'll not get anywhere near 450bhp.
You'll need a fuel pump (if you havent got one already) bigger injectors certainly a bigger turbo (look at the MD321T). You've not metnioned about exhaust and headers.
What heads are you running? If you're using UK heads then I would consider getting some STI heads as the flow alot more and allow higher rev limits too.

As for the comments about the FMIC Mine is "an ebay special" and its coped with 500+bhp very nicely)

There's plenty of builds documented on here with that power and above.
Have a read of the projects thread and follow some of the proven paths taken in there.

its got polished sti heads thought i said that already, and i have a performance manifold and a 3" superdrager exhaust system turbo back (no cats).
i've just got myself some 750cc injectors from ebay,:thumb:
and i already have a upgraded fuel pump.

im now looking to buy a turbo now hopefully i can have this beast up and ready for friday

IRC450STI 29 November 2008 03:31 PM

I wouldnt go any higher than 400bhp TBO cos i think a uk has a open deck block so would not push it more than that really :wonder:

No you just said it was a UK car with polished heads, nothing about them being STI heads with under buckets shims. 750cc are you sure they are not 740cc like Apexi or Nismo (tried and tested)

The the EJ20 open deck block has very thick liners (thicker than the EJ257) so you'll be fine at 450bhp.

As far as rotated turbos go ie GT3076 IMHO its not worth it unless you're going for inexcess of 500bhp. The latest generation of bolt ons ,Particularly the MD series, are fantastic turbos. (I have a rotated setup just incase you think i was being biased).

Stick to bolt on with your current engine otherwise you'll have a car that's laggy and not very nice to drive on the road.

don,t count on it,thats what i have said for the past 5 years.whatever my budgit was i always ended uphaving to shell out more and more cash.after last year i said that was it the car was staying as it was but then came 2008 and the spending started again.once you have the bug its got you for good.:thumb:

Definitely need a bigger turbo - lots of choices there. I have run an FP Green but am now enjoying heaps more torque and top end power from an MD321V.

Injectors will need replacing for larger ones and a FPR to allow a bit of headroom.

Gearbox will be fine but depending on the turbo you go for an uprated clutch will not cope if it is still a single plate organic.

MartynJ 30 November 2008 09:31 AM

I echo most of what the above have said, stick to the smallest bolt on turbo which will achieve your power goals.
This will stop you ending up with a car which is laggy and unresponsive at thew low end. FP Green HTA, 321T,or the MD555 from Turbo Dynamics which would be my choice.
They can spec this to your individual needs (with a choice of wheels and exhaust housings) making sure you get exactly what you want.

Have a read for yourself.
