Lexus LS 400

Anyone owned one of these?? Thinking of getting one, as the current climate has forced these down in price even more:norty: Fuel doesn't seem that bad to be honest, maybe even a bit better than the scooby:wonder: Just wanted to hear from the horses mouth what they are like to be honest!!

I don't have an LS but I have a Toyota Soarer which is essentially identical to the Lexus SC400 and shares the engine/gearbox with the LS400.

My average fuel consumption in that car is 16mpg and that's using the cruise control on the motorway at 70mph (cruise won't work above it!)

the 400's are getting on a bit so watch out that all the electronics work as that can get expensive really quick. For example, I had to have the EMV (touch screen computer that controls the stereo, climate control, TV and sat nav) reconditioned and it was about £400. When you consider that it'll have 8-way electric seat, motorised steering column, electric everything else, it will take you some time to check everything (even the dipping rear view mirror is electric!)

The engines are very well built and should be perfectly reliable and the gearboxes seem to go on forever with the odd fluid change.

Cheers Rev, to be honest my only real concern is the engine and box, I can live with the odd electrical fault unless like you say the screen goes! they are a bit long in the tooth nowadays, but I think the prices reflect that. Cheers for the reply!!

I had a mark 2 LS400 that was a 95 on an M plate and it was a great car but to be honest I sold it because I wanted a mark 3 95 onwards. The mark 3 has many differences including a 5 speed gearbox and the mark 3 is the one to go for in my opinion.

Hi Paul, what sort of mpg were you getting out n about in town?

Paulo P 27 November 2008 11:04 AM

Not good driving around town but overall it was about the same as my Subaru was. I did drive it very hard though.

I did £180 in fuel in the first week I owned it and I didn't really go anywhere special :lol1: I don't think it would cost any more in fuel than a Subaru and is probably better than a Subaru on a run. I loved the car though and I used it all of the time, it was such a nice car to drive and such a nice way to travel, I'd recommend one to anyone.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, don't do an awful lot of miles to be honest, about 100 miles per week. Can't see it being as bad as the scoob either. I've seen some with the radio controls in the back, but not sure if these are only on the imported jobbies??

Paulo P 27 November 2008 12:57 PM

Mine didn't have radio controls in the back, it had everything else though :D

This was my one

Mmmmmmm, that's very nice Paul, I'm after a black one too. What are the service intervals, and how much for a sevice (not main dealer)??

Paulo P 27 November 2008 01:10 PM

I can't remember what the service intervals are and I didn't have it serviced because I only kept it 2 months and 1k miles. I sold it to buy a mark 3 but I ended up buying a sierra cosworth that afternoon instead :lol1:

:lol1: Been there and done it myself mate! Cheers for the info bud:thumb:
