Top Gear alternatives

I'll always watch it because it is generally enjoyable.

As to alternatives (and being quite sad!) I quite enjoy Wheeler Dealers. There was another one I enjoyed too with Jason Dawe.Don't think its on at the moment.Obviously I get more excited over used stuff and cars being done up:D

As to vroom vroom err,not the best.Fifth gear err,not the best either.

Don't know what other car related stuff there is apart from the Top Gear loop on Dave:wonder:

THE GARAGE!!!!!!!!

Jamz3k 24 November 2008 02:10 PM

my three favourite car programmes are The Garage, American Hotrod and HotRod Apprentice:hardShine(very very good car programme in my opinion) although i don't mind others like Overhaulin' or Wheeler Dealer.

My very small teeny weeny gripe with Wheeler dealer is that they buy a car for £1000 spend the same doing it up and then sell it for £2200. Now i'm not very good at maths but i know £200 profit would not pay for a days work from the likes of Ed China in the real world.

SJ_Skyline 24 November 2008 03:02 PM

Scrapheap Challenge :D ok, not car per-se but still great imho :thumb:

Wheeler dealer is great, They used to film it down the road form me and every single person that "bought" a car from them worked on the production team on in the unit next door to where they filmed.

They sold an old merc once that they had "restored" to be like new, If you look carefully when they do the revel bit at the end you will see a dirty great hole in the side of the engine.

Notwithstanding that it is entertaining and I think Ed is awesome. Kinda like a beetle is born too.

Overhaulin.

Could do without the Phone Pranks. But the cars look great at the end. And AJ is HOT. :D

I like Wheeler Dealers, despite it being just as fake as TG.

The old Deals On Wheels is repeated on cable too - they were alright.

The new series of WDOTR isn't like how the show was setup before. In the first show a Fiat 500 is bought and sold for £6,500 so more money spent. No doubt Ed is praying he gets some wonga this time around.

Try Men & Motors maybe something is on there.

mykp 24 November 2008 11:05 PM

the jason dawe thing, you mean Used car roadshow.

Met him and penny malory, he was great real friendly, while mallory ignored everyone and went and sat in her car!

Whealer dealers is great, always makes me laugh at the end when they sell it for £5 more than it cost them to sort out! Poor Ed

I can't stand Mike Brewer :nono: He's got one of them faces you could happily spend all weekend punching without getting bored

The Garage? Perchance is this the show about Jock and his garage in Spain? I've caught a few episodes and it's ok, apart from Jock being somewhat like a UK combination of Boyd/Duane from American Hotrod, ie; a bit of an arrogant prick.

Overhaulin' isn't too bad, and I agree they could do without the prank side of things.

I think American Chopper has gone off the boil recently, mainly since Vin and Cody left.

There aren't too many, if any, real alternatives to TG. Motoring Weekly, and another whose name I forget, are a couple of shows that are akin to how TG used to be, ie; car reviews, but they are North American, and thus biased to that market, and are rather bland.

Some of the other shows I watch are Horsepower, which shows how to mod your yank tank, does make it seem very, very easy to build and/or upgrade your V8. Trucks is ok, same kind of thing but for pick-up trucks, and Truck-U(niverse) is more of the same.

Chop Cut Rebuild is pretty good too. They had an impreza build on there within the last couple of years which was interesting.

Custom my ride? Some nice conversions done, not ruined like pimp my ride.

ryn004 27 November 2008 08:31 AM

There used to be a show on discovery called "Wheel Nuts" I beleive. I liked the part were the presenter is given a car and he would analyze what type of person owns that car.
Anyone remember this show, what was it called exactly? Love to downlaod and see the whole series again.

corradoboy 27 November 2008 10:34 AM

Avoid anything with Ginny Buckley  If indeed she is still trying to make it as a motoring journalist

[BMW Z8 comes into view doing 3mph]

'You can just feel the raw power of that V8 beneath you' [in a plummy posh irritating daddy owns the production company tone]

Wheeler Dealers is a very good watch, even watched the Citroen DS one the other night twice (v.sad!!) love them DS's.

Deals on Wheels is always watchable, I can't believe how dated and crap all the cars are on it, it was filmed around 1998/99 and looks late 80's!, Brewer has piled on the pounds since then.
