Swapping my Saloon for a Wagon ? Good Idea?

Lets face it, no one is going to bother with the Corsa ..

The next idea is to swap my Scooby for a Wagon .. as in an Impreza estate !

MY99 UK Turbo 2000 ...worth ?? (God I hate this bit) 4k maybe ?? 60k on the clock FSSH, new clutch recently, new battery .. fantastic condition ...

Would I regret swapping it for a Wagon of similar price range .. maybe a 97 Sti if I'm lucky ?

Thoughts? I'm after room for a dog or Pram in the back .. I've tried this once before but at the time it needed new front discs and I decided to get them done before swapping .. there done now .. all seems to be good .. had it 3 years and never missed a beat (touch wood) .. :Suspiciou

I thought the wagons were not as popular as the 4 door and 2 door scoobies, maybe not.Not a bad choice for someone who wants a quick estate, not by a long stretch.

Strangely, wagons used to be very popular with the high-power tuning guys. Remember P20SPD (Steve Darley), David Wallis (I think he ran a wagon at some point), and Harvey Smith. They were often preferred as it was easier to work on the rear suspension and you could easily fit in extra wheels and tools for events.

Steve Darley's....

Saloon's are worth more money, as more people want them, but on a practicality note, wagons are better.

If you go from a UK Turbo saloon, to an STi wagon, i reckon it's a MUCH better choice.

love my wagoon- I purposely bought one for practicality. can't see point of saloons, useless in the real world.

Nobody who's ever owned a wagon has ever regretted it - the only negative comments you'll hear are from people who have never owned one. The look seems to be the biggest hurdle for non-converts, other than that there's nothing to dislike, and on the road, if you've got a fast one, it's way more satisfying than blasting past in a saloon.

But the MY99 Uk turbo ain't worth £4k i'm afraid. Maybe half that now.

:cuckoo: 2k no way

90k - on the clock .. this is shocking .. and there is no chance in hell my car is going for that !

No probs with a wagon. A tweed with leather elbow patches and a pair of shiny ar5e cords to complete the look :D

I quite like Wagons tbh, has to be a Classic Wagon for me though..;)

my husband used to own a wagon when i met him, and he and i loved it! had to get a bigger car to fit 4 kids in so changed it in for a citreon c8 , but then 2 and a half years ago got a spec d saloon, which is just as nice as the wagon was! in fact there are times i wish we had got another wagon ,I had actually suggested this to my hubbie recently! then at least we would have room to go to devon and places nice for holidays without having to take 2 cars!

I also suggested a porshe , but he said NO!

Should I mention I have a Spec-D and a Wagon :smug: :top:

If they made a proper STi wagon rather than the Hatchback, that would be superb !

Ian 24 November 2008 01:05 PM

She's 23 cant get insured on it.

You should get a decent v3/v4 STi wagon with £4k, picked up my V5 a year ago for £5k... I'm convinced people are put off because they don't have the rally car look of the 2/4 drs. Saying that you don't get anywhere near as much unwanted attention.

They're slightly heavier than the saloon, but thats offset by that extra weight being over the back end which you could argue helps handling. :wonder:

I'd love to swap my blobeye wagon 2.0GX for someones classic STI or 22B, but don't reckon it'd stay outside my flat in Hackney for very long. Nor could insure the fecker........
