LCR (again)

I know there have been thousands of posts about these on here, but the search function being what it is at the minute....well you know what I mean  .

I've been looking for a Scoob but kept my eye on the LCR as alternative and they seem to be falling into the right price bracket now.

What are people's opinions/experiences of them? (performance, handling, running costs etc).

The LCR makes more sense than a Scoob for just about every reason, there's even a very good VAG specialist near me that services them for next to nothing, but I don't want to buy one then still be wishing I'd bought the scoob (been there, done that with a MK4 Astra GSI).

I'm just after something that's fairly entertaining to drive and puts me in the seat every now and then and ideally, doesn't bleed me dry to run it. I'd probably treat it to a remap but nothing else (honest ;) ).

Would the LCR be a good substitute for a Scoob?

Cheers

I hated the handling of my 210 LCR (with a REVO remap)
Was great for going up and down motorways etc but there's no way I'd have gone on a B-Road for a fun blast like I do with my Scooby.

Is a mk5 GTi out of the question?
Much better handling and build quality.

What's a LCR?

Seat Leon Cupra R.

They run the legendary VAG 1.8T as in the Audi TT, Audi S3, Skoda Octavia VRS etc.

Never owned one but considered it.

Hi

My last car was a 225 Cupra R, loved it to be honest, set of Eibach springs sorted the quite average handling and sounded lovely with a Milltek system on.
Brilliant car.

Thanks

Keith

Legendary?!!
It's one of the most insipid engines ever to "grace" a VAG group car.
Horrible noise, zero character.

Yes it can be tuned to a billion bhp but I have driven loads with that unit and it has never failed to disappoint from a 150bhp Golf to a 225bhp S3.

The new 2.0 unit is MUCH better.

Agreed! I had the 1.8t A3 and it was very dull

It probably is a dull engine but it is still regarded as an excellent engine by many simply because it can be "tuned to a billion bhp"

I always thought mine handled quite well, no Elise but good fun none the less. Tyres made a huge difference to them, the standard Pzero's mine had weren't suited to our cold/damp roads, Eagle F1's suited it much better.

It's not, but they're still more than i'd be willing to pay for one. Just something about them I don't like, that, and i've had 3 Golfs already

No ex-owners out there?
