Greedy government

Two things since my son went to university.
Firstly, all students now are supposed to have their own TV license even if they stay in halls of residence. What, like people living in retirement homes have to?

I mean, students are amongst the richest people in the country, so why NOT take more off them?

Then today, he received a reply from the NHS to his request to NOT pay for dental care while still a student in full-time education..........you know, like students USED to get.

Nope, they have assessed his student LOAN as income,:cuckoo: so he has to pay. What utter sh*te.

Still, if you come up with aplan to get 50% or more people to go to university, in ortder to keep them off the unemployment records, you HAVE to pay for it somehow.
Rubbish, Labour, you're dishonest.

That's always been the case.

Had to do that in the mid 90's when I was at uni.

Dedrater 19 November 2008 04:41 PM

Just tell him not to bother paying, 99.999% he will never be found out anyway.

I bet not many people on here know that the TVLA (BBC's enforcement of TV Licensing Department) has since the 80s conned people into thinking that they have TV vans roaming round that can actually detect if you have a TV, receiving a live signal, they can't.

J4CKO 19 November 2008 05:31 PM

To be fair to the government, the licence fee goes to the BBC.

Steve vRS 19 November 2008 05:36 PM

In my halls in the very early 90's, we were told the cleaners would let the halls manager know who had a TV ad so who should be dobbed in to the licencing people.

My cleaner said she was too nice to do that :D

I very much doubt it

Hmmmmmmmm, I don't remember it being like that when I was at uni in the 70's.

Anyway, that's not my major gripe, I'm more p*ssed off with them treating his STUDENT LOAN as income:mad:

Is it me, or do a huge number of students have cars, and they're not even bangers at that. Poverty stricken?? I know there are plenty of them out there who are genuinely skint mind.

In my day, all you got was a pair of shoes, or if u were posh, a bicycle.

Is it me?

fatherpierre 19 November 2008 11:22 PM

Why should students live or be educated for nothing, and we have to pay for them?

If they watch tv then they should pay to, like we all do.

If they want higher eduction, they should pay for it like......... oh, sh1t, yeah............ I got it for free :lol1:

Its you mate - I bought a new MR2 when I was at university. Everyone thought I was a drug dealer

Didn't have a TV though, was too busy working all day to pay the finance and drinking all night to live the student life (with the odd hour or two a month of going to lectures thrown in) - IIRC we had to pay for dental care, but not for prescriptions

I was usually up to my nuts, or in the pub.

Don't recall ever having a tv licence or paying for one either. Was only a year in the early 90s, though - moved out after that, and that's all a blur.

the student loans company are useles. being a uni student i recieved my loan decision and i got X amount for the term, after paying for my halls (£110 a week which is more than council houses but i had a box room) i was left with £29.18 a week. the halls also had a cleaning rota which you had to stick to or you get fined £18  . so i moved out of halls :D then had to pay a £50 leaving halls admin fee.
