just a quick post to let off a bit of steam

Just 4 weeks ive had me baby.....

You've guest it, a dint in the drivers door :(

It makes me sooooooo mad that people are so careless (B*STARDS)

its a dint about the size of a 10p and down to the undercoat.

OK its done, no good crying over spilt milk i suppose. is DBM available as a touch up pen? just want to get it covered til i can get/afford to have the dint sorted

Come on guys & gals, i need a shoulder to cry on. boo hoo!

DrEvil 14 February 2002 11:57 AM

I know exactly what you mean, it happened to me last night (I posted a similar thread in the muppet forum last night).

One of the joys of living in a society that has zero respect for other peoples property :(

Alex

Andy Porter 14 February 2002 11:58 AM

Unfortunatley some people are careless idiots with no respect.
Sorry to hear that,
Andyp

I had owned my MY00 for 2 days before somebody put a little dink in the drivers door of my car. Nothing like as bad as yours but it stood out like a sore thumb on a 2 day old car.

Even being incredibly careful and never venturing into any car parks except the one here at work I still ended up with about 10 little dents in two years.

I dread to think what a car that goes to tescos every week ends up looking like.

Came back to my girlfriends car once to see pikey family in the Ford Escort parked next to us changing a babys nappy on the front seat. Woman had the door open, leaning into the car with her fat council estate arse banging the door into my girlfriends car. If that had been the Impreza I dread to think what would have happened......

Thanks guys.

If caught these people should be given a least 10 hours community service (reading posts in the muppet forum) that should make anyone more carefull.

Bal 14 February 2002 12:24 PM

Is got them all the time when I had my scoob.
So I bought a side moulding kit.
Worked like a charm.

steve McCulloch 14 February 2002 12:27 PM

Unfortunately you'll get loads of dints on the doors.

I've had mine removed 3 times now...... You just cant leave them anywhere - and no-one cares, my work colleague will deliberately dent a car like mine just for the fun of it (we both have company cars) although the older folk are a nightmare!

I wont park it in a public carpark, or only where I can parallel park the thing. If I'm in a supermarket I park it in the corner of the car park somewhere - last week another Scoob joined me....

The car needs side protection strips and this is something I will be investing in on the new car purchase...

If someone parks very close when I'm in my company Audi I make sure that I use the full weight of the door and take it out on there car, esp. if they dont have protective strips.... terrible - but these people need teaching a lesson - unfortunately some dont realise how bad they are!

catflap 14 February 2002 12:31 PM

I park as far away from the shops as i can, these same uncairfull turds are also lazy over weight slobs whowont walk. Capitalise on their narrow mindedness, and park as far as you can (that blue sccob you seen at the very corner of the carpark? yeh that me) LOL

Subzero 14 February 2002 12:33 PM

I'm with Steve on this one, I don't park near other people and if I have to then I'll use the wide parent and baby spaces (I'm the parent and the car is my baby);)

Sideways 14 February 2002 12:35 PM

When I used to drive a Ford RS cossy  I came back to find someone had put a massive pin dent in the door. So checking it was still the same car, I ( and I'm ashamed to say it )knelt down and put my elbow into their door skin.
I feel a bit guilty even now but at the time I was so annoyed.
Am I forgiven ? :D

carpet 14 February 2002 12:36 PM

I always try to park near a nice car - preferably another scoob or a car that costs lot more than mine. Hoping that the owner cares about his/her car ! If the car youre parked next to looks like a piece of poo then you can bet that the owner aint gonna give a fcuk if they dint your door ! wnakers !!!

stevejohnson511 14 February 2002 12:50 PM

we forgive you, trouble is they probably
didnt even notice.poeple who care about
their car are careful with other peoples.
(unless they dent yours).Someone dented
mine while i was sitting in it,he was quite
surprised when i told him what a f------
careless c--- he was.

I was looking out of the window of our office which is on the first floor. A nice almost new Mercedes coupe arrived driven by a quite good looking middle aged woman, so I kept watching.

She reversed nicely into a parking space next to a Disco. When she opened her door it smacked the Disco so hard that I could hear it through a closed window !! She didn't even look, but just carried on her business as if nothing had happened.

A symptom of the company car society methinks.

AndyC_772 14 February 2002 01:04 PM

DBM touch-up paint is available from your dealer. Unfortunately, it's not the same colour as the car!

My car has picked up its fair share of car park dings too - last year I used Dentmaster to fix them. It was about £80 to do all four doors, which I felt was money well spent - they did a brilliant job. They don't do paintwork, though, but I found the dents themselves far more conspicuous. Paint damage soon gets lost amongst the stone chips :(

Andy.

ZIPPY 14 February 2002 01:17 PM

Had it happen on my company BMW with a woman who's comment was 'its only a car' but she and the subsequent phone call from her husband after i took her details for an insurance claim made her change her thoughts on tw*ting somebody elses car with her door.
They were going to pay cash to save their NCD but i took it to BMW who recommended a new door skin (after gentle persuasion)i would love to see what she does now when opening the door of the family sh*t heap.

P1DOG 14 February 2002 01:20 PM

My girlfriend thinks I'm mad, but i am prepared to drive round a car park for ages till i find the right spot (and have even been known to leave all together) My tip is take 2 spaces whenever possible - ok you might get a bit of grief or a snotty note saying that you have parked inconsiderately, but that I can handle. I've had my P1 for nearly two years and not one parking dent. (sorry) so my theory must work to some degree.- now lookout, let the denting commence.

OK I'll get my coat........!

nigel s 14 February 2002 01:39 PM

I normally park in the far corner away from everyone else at the end of a row of blank spaces, to then return and find some has gone an parked next to me. Maybe some people need to use other cars as a guide line for parking their own...

DavidRB 14 February 2002 01:43 PM

Was sitting in my car, waiting for it to cool down in the local Sainsbury's car park when a trolley appeared out of the corner of my eye and smacked into the passenger door. It had rolled away from a guy ten spaces away from me. Astonishingly, it must have hit the one and only hard point on the door, because there wasn't even a scratch. Lucky so-and-so. Still, at least he apologised. ;)

juan 14 February 2002 01:48 PM

anyone taking 2 spaces deserves a special dent imo. Theres a woman nearby who takes two spaces in our local carpark every day in her toyota corolla, despite a variety of 'snotty' notes (only the one from me!). God knows why she does it but it makes everyone mad (car park is usually full). Next time she doesn't get right in the middle my car is gonna squeeze in beside her even if I have to get out of the boot

I don't knock other peoples doors usually but would have no qualms doing it if I found evidence that they had knocked mine

carl 15 February 2002 12:20 PM

It gets easier after the first dent...

Lunchie 15 February 2002 01:43 PM

What I don't understand is that by knocking into doors you chip off the paint on the edge of your own door. But then again most people who do it probably have rusty Sh*t heaps anyway.

On thing I do steer clear of is MPV's. The thought of 7 kids flinging the doors open makes me somewhat scared ...

Lunchie

Scoobychick 15 February 2002 01:57 PM

I came out of PC World to find the couple with the Disco parked next to me loading stuff into their boot quite blissfully unaware that their drivers door was wedged open against my closed passenger door. I let rip. They were very apologetic but as I explained to them it's too late to close the stable door once the horse has bolted

When I park next to another car (although I try not to unless it's a 'nice' car) I always always always put my hand around the edge of the door so that in the (unlikely) event that my door hits theirs it's my hand that gets dinged not their car. It doesn't ake too much effort does it?

Sal

Nigel H 15 February 2002 02:06 PM

I got the side protectors done at the first service. 5 months later no dings.

OK they look a bit crap, but they're better than the dings.

I have a bit of sympathy with people with kids, being the parent of a 2 y.o. I just hate when people park so close to me I can't get the kid in the back seat (it's tricky trying to get them in the car seat). So be careful of cars with kiddy seats - we do care - but we need space.

Markus 15 February 2002 02:26 PM

don't get me started on this, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, as you know, somone decided to have a 'rock concert' on the bonnet of my car, well, they threw a huge rock at the bonnet.

time to start a separate thread about moral decline in the new millenium!

DJ Dunk 15 February 2002 03:41 PM

Bl00dy stupid next door neighbour reversed her car right into the back of my Scoob today. I watched her out of the window .

Just because she's got a crappy old Sierra with no power steering she thinks she has a right to bounce off of other cars to park outside of her house

Why are people so stupid/inconisderate towards other peoples property ?!

Have you got a case for criminal damage if you see someone damaging your car ?

BRING BACK HANGING - only for people who mess with other peoples cars!!

My one happened 4 days after i got the car - now i always take up two spaces in a public car park - if anyone doesn't like it then FCUK'EM.

Enjoy

Andy Porter 15 February 2002 04:29 PM

Unfortunatley some people will take offence Elliot, and damage the car anyway,

First weekend of ownership, returned from the supermarket to find a f@ckin' shopping trolley leaning up against my car. Saw the bloke who did it, confronted him, and told the b@stard that I'd stick him in his s@dding trolley arse first if he ever parked near me again.

Felt much better after that .
