To buy an RB320/TVR/BMW/Evo.....

As few of you may know I currently own a Hawkeye STi Type UK on an 07 plate, its covered approx 7K and is in mint condition.

I have spent anywhere between £3000-3500 on it, including Ecutek remap etc.

Having looked at car prices recently I have noticed that you can now get a hell of a lot of motor for relatively 'little outlay' and it has got me thinking....

I had a peep on Pistonheads as I regularly do in the Scooby section and noticed an RB320 with 365bhp going for around the £21000 mark, now if I sold my motor and got a half decent price, put a few grand to it then bobs your uncle.

Then I made the mistake of looking at TVRs, specifically the Sagaris and also noticed that you can pick one of those up on an 05/55 plate for around £28-30K, now that is a dream car.

Then there are Evo 9GTs in white with 400bhp+ going for around £20K, top end Mercs around similar prices etc

Obviously I am fully aware of the running/service/repair costs of higher prices motors.

So all of this has got the wheels in motion and I am now contemplating parting with more cash.....again!!

So what would you choose, if not from the above options, what else would you recommend??

Do you see any point in going for the RB when I almost have the exact same car/power.....

Lets put a budget of £30000 on the table, what you got for me??

Any input is appreciated!!

I knew I shouldn't have looked on Pistonheads!!

If I had £30k then I would buy 2 cars.

Firstly would be a daily driver and secondly a 22B :notworthy which would come out at my leisure.

What do you consider a "half decent price"?

Scoobies have suffered a lot.

rickya 07 November 2008 09:49 AM

RB320 - too similar to your current car not worth the change
Sagaris - Money pit thats better as a nice dream rather than reality!

I would also be inclined to go for 2 cars. One daily run around, maybe diesel mid size & another no comprimise anything goes proper fast car

Stop wasting your money and keep the Hawkeye, be sensible :thumb:

SPEC C RA-r

RRH 07 November 2008 10:22 AM

Unfortunately, the chances of getting a 'half decent price' are slim at best.... I'm struggling to sell my 2006 STi

does a RS4 fall into the 30k budget (sorry, dont know the going rate)

otherwise... i really dont know, sooooo much choice for that money.

M3 CSL maybe?

I'm more inclined to agree with bob r - A normal car for everyday use and a the best (aesthetically AND mechanically) Impreza - correction, SUBARU - ever made!! IMHO;-)

I remember Colin from MSW had the ex- Nicky Grist 22B up for sale ending of last year. Was asking for 25k. Not sure if he sold it then but you can PM him on colin@msw.com (or it might be .co.uk - cant remember) and see if he still has it. It had about 4000 kms on the clock!!!!

Nearly had me in tears!!

Supercharged Exiege for me.

magicgreg 07 November 2008 02:16 PM

I think I am one of only a few that actually doesn't like the look of the 22B, just never appealed to me, more of a newage man - the S204 is superb and along with a T25 would be my first choice in scoobs, however, £30K for a scooby is borderline defeating the purpose of a scooby IMO, just a bit too much for what it actually is.

Nobles are another example of a fantastic motor when working but so much grief when they are not, heard of some horrid reports of reliability where the M12 is concerned, very expensive when they go wrong.

The RS4 always creeps into my mind, very classy and reasonably understated but with massive potential, I'd love a supercharged version of one! I'm not fully up on the service schedule/cost of these so will have to look into it.

I can't seem to get the TVR Sagaris out of my head, what a motor that is!

An Evo 9 GT with some big power in white is also lurking as well, still early days, pie in the sky.

Send me all of the info regarding the car mate:

Price/Year/Miles/Spec

Service interval/schedule/cost etc

I'm sure you know the score, its one that I am bearing in mind along with a TVR and Evo.

Cheers

for me it would be a a close call between a lotus and a nobel!

but think i would still go for the 22b, future classic and one hell of a car.

DB07P1 07 November 2008 05:25 PM

like others have said m3 csl or rs4 if i had that to spend, evo does sound like an awesome car though aswell

Midnight Runner 07 November 2008 08:55 PM

If I had that sort of money it would be a nice black R34 Skyline GTR :D need deep pockets to run/maintain/tune it though. Also getting on a bit, but generally will be well looked after

RRH 07 November 2008 09:27 PM

The CSL will probably be most depreciation resistant- if there is such a thing?

Aaron1978 07 November 2008 10:17 PM

my mate is selling his CSL;) , its a really nice car but having driven both that and a normal M3 its not worth the extra money imho, can't adjust the seats, only backwards and forward.

It is a track focused car imho and does handle well brakes are fantastic and sounds better than a normal M3. Plus with your spec Greg there wouldn't be much difference in performance and handling.

Basically its a M3 stripped of its luxurys slightly tuned with carbon bonnet roof and boot and front bumper. Don't get me wrong its a fantastic car and yeah it won't lose its value as bad as any other M3. If you do decide a Csl might be worth looking at give us a shout mate.

if the other cars have dropped money, then yours will as well. this is a common misconception at the moment, yes prices have dropped but unless you dont have a current car, the atual out lay, eg the money your gonna spend, is exactly the same.

thesyn 07 November 2008 10:49 PM

Mercedes SL 55 AMG. Saw one parked and thought it looked pretty cool. Within the specified price range!
