Working links/Intraining?
 

I know I'm asking for trouble on this...:o :D

Been to local Jobcentre on Monday this week, as I'm struggling to find jobs I can do. (Everyone knows my situation now (some agree - some disagree) and I want to say I'm not looking for attention or sympathy. Genuine advice and experience please.)

Anyway, I asked at the Jobcentre if I would be entitled to any help and training as I'm out of work due to medical reasons. They don't deal with this any more but the gentleman I spoke to passed on two leaflets. These are two companies in Scunthorpe which now deal with this sort of thing. I was plenty polite and smartly dressed, which I think shocked him a little, compared to what he may deal with on a daily basis. So after a pleasent experience at the Jobcentre, I decide to walk and find these 2 places.

Ones called "Intraining" and was the first I found. Unfortunatley I couldn't get an interview/app. until Monday week (17th), but still accepted it regardless. The other is called "Working links" and I have actually got an app. today @ 2.50pm. It was kinda strange walking in smartly dressed and asking for genuine help, as both lasses at both places looked really shocked, as though I was a breath of fresh air, I dunno, maybe my eagerness and willingness shone through.

But anyways, the questions I have, apart from taking in a recent copy of my C.V., are this...

What else should I take in? Maybe some expamples of my art work, as it's something I am serious about taking further if the help is there?

Has anyone on here got any experiences of these 2 places? I will take any help offered, even if I get stuck somewhere on peanuts. Anything would be nice to get my foot in the door and then see what training or courses I may get help on. I'm not un-intelligent, and it's mainly a financial thing with regards to training.

I'm asking as I'm not too sure how to take it today. I'm gonna get dressed respectably and print off a C.V. now to get me started, and hopefully I'll have some good news come tea time.

Long winded I know, but just wanted to re-itterate what I said at the top, I'm not looking for sympathy etc.

I cannot offer any other advise as I've never used them and I'm still distracted from karting at lunch, stomping around in my new boots (now), and getting ready for this evenings Jujutsu, so I doubt I would be able to make constructive points anyway :p

Friend worked for Working Links for quite some time....

Lots of good contacts available and TBH you are brighter than the average candidate that walks through their doors.....(unless of course you got someone to type this for you ;) ) so you should get a good few opportunities thrown your way....

No problem, thanks for the input. I'd like to think for my negative attitude recently that I am quite intellegent, so that may show me in good stead.

The meeting itself was good, nice and laid back, but with some good points discussed. The lady who I had the app. with seemed impressed with my C.V. and my communication skills etc. may get an opportunity to at least do my computer drivers license thingy which my Mrs has.

There may be an opportunity for outside sponsorship for me to go back into some sort of part time education. It's obvious I can't rely on my P.I. claim as this may take years, so it's a case of me starting at the bottom and building my way up.

Only major concern with this is current finances, but anythings better than being on benefit in my opinion.

Got another meeting Monday A.M. with the same woman, and then it will be discussed to have a meeting with a gentleman who will go through my interview technique. as I'm only 24 and had 2 jobs in 6 years, I've only ever had one informal interview. Apparently my waffle is good, as long as it's about the relevant subject in hand. I'd be lost if I couldn't waffle:lol1:

I'm possibly gonan be made redundant before Xmas, so i've spent the last few weeks registering on here and contacting agencies

I'm registered on most of these, but hopefully if I can get some training and even simple qualifications like the computer license etc, people may take a second look at me.:)

Just a little update as I was quite busy yesterday.

I had another arranged meeting with the lady dealing with my case yesterday at 11.30am. This was so we could discuss good/bad points about my C.V. etc. and look a little deeper into what my couse of action should be.

The major development was when she called a couple of local places up with regards to studying the ECDL course. The first one was an astronomical price and was set over nearly a year at certain times each week. The second place she called was my old college where I studied my GNVQ advanced Art & Design course. The price was much more reasonable, and the course is a 'flexible learning' one, so I can do as much as I want, when I want. Only a couple miles walk or 5 minute drive too, so depending on my success with getting a job to tide me by, I could do this everyday for a couple of hours if needs be. My worry was funding, but the set up at Working Links is in 2 sections, 'general unemployment' and 'unemployment through disablement'. So fortunetley as I've shown a good willingness, they will look into sponsoring me a little from pot 'A' and a little from pot 'B'.

My thinking is a ECDL is another qualification on my C.V. and may help me get an Admin/Desk job, something totally away from my Warehousing background (which after 6 years got me nowhere):freak3:

I've got another meeting set up on Thursday. This is with a gentleman who specialises in interview techniques. I felt a little dumbed down when this was suggested to me, but then realising I've only ever had 1 job interview in my life nearly 5 years ago... kinda saw the benefit of it all.

Long winded I know, but hopefully things are on the up, and I will soon be able to stop claiming benefits etc, which is my long term goal:thumb:

Ok really, I'm enroling back at college to study for my ECDL. I had a meeting with quite an inspirational fellow today by the name of Jonathan. He specialises in the people skills and interview trainign side of it. Think they're called workshop type projects. Anyways after discussing in length what I can and can't do, we have set a plan of action. After listening to his own story and scenario (as hes registered blind) and hardships from being dismissed, it seemed apparent he saw some of his old self within me.

so the negative attitude is slowly but surely changing over now. I've just got to finalise my funding for the ECDL and away I go. I have a tutorial booked in next Tuesday with the course tutor to discuss things over, and hopefully it will be all go from then on. I feel a bit of a child, but it's the lift I've needed for a while. It still may take me god knows how long to find work, but my motivation is with the spare time to train and claim all the training/funding that I can.

Things have taken good solid steps now, and approaching Working Links on my own steam was the catalyst I needed. It's shame I wasn't aware of their existance before now.:)

Plus it's given me a better outlook for the future and means I can ignore the arseholes on here who sent me the abusive PM's about scrounging benefits and feeling sorry for myself. You know who you were :nono:

Next up is a review of my previous C.V. and covering letters/applications to improve my appearence to prospective employers. It sounds basic I know, but theres a lot more than meets the eye on this. My "homework" for this week is to create a spreadsheet with names/address/locations/phone numbers of ANY companies in this area so I can send off dozens of C.V.'s to get my feelers out.

I'm a bum for now, but hopefully not forever :lol1:

What you need to do now is decide what it will do for you and where you want to take it. Having a qualification won't make companies come to toyu with so much competition out there. You need to make a plan about which doors you want to open in your local area and then go knock on them.

Yep, thats a work in progress. I have to develop a spreadsheet with all the companies I'm gonna send my C.V. too. the guy at Working Links wants pages and pages for next Thursdays appointment.

I don't actually know what I want to do. I have my apssion (and talent) for drawing/artwork, and I have a deep routed passion for music, via my DJ'ing skills. But having a ECDL doesn't really tie in with one of them. So it may be a case I look for a admin job, or something along the lines of management or a supervisory role, which I can train towards. It depends what I can help funding with really, unless I come into money so I can fund myself.

Had another meeting today which was to do with making the best of application forms. was sat in with a pair of right work shy chavs. sat there giving all the answers and asking questions while these two pissed about and discussed getting pissed. Makes me wonder:cuckoo:

Anyways, the whole college thing may be on hold - as the two module ECDL I want to enroll on is nearly £400 all in. At Working Links, the maximum funding is £100 per person on the side I'm on. So it's a case of looking into signing me on the general unemployment side too and hoping they can fund me. If not, i'm gonna struggle, as all monies currently coming in are keeping the baliffs away:lol1:

Just thought I'd update it. Got an application for the NHS (admin) which I'm gonna donload and fill in for tomorrow. Also got two meetings on Monday back at Working Links, one from 10-12.00 and the other from 1-3.00pm. interview techniques etc etc. All coming in handy.

Any info. on funding etc would be good, as I'm not sure whats gonna happen.
