New scooby owner needing advice!

Hello to everyone reeding this! I have just recently traded my 1.8 freelander in for a 99 impreza turbo estate, its the best deal I have ever done....cannot believe I have been missing out for this long, the car is great!
Anyway, there are a few mods thrown in with the car: performance air filter, exhaust, baileys dump valve, and in true scooby tradition I wish to add a few more! A friend of mine has told me to purchase a manual boost controller (Item number: 370105976065 ebay) for my next mod. Not knowing a lot at the moment can someone give me some advice on this? As in the safe level of boost (I think I read somewhere that the turbo as standard runs 0.8 bar of boost?) how much difference it will make etc and anything else I need to know!
I am sure this question has been asked a thousand times, I am trying to read my way through most of it! As a new scooby owner I will be the first to admit that its all new to me so any other advice would be greatly recieved! Had a new timing belt and service done yesterday just for piece of mind! she has done a few miles, over 100.000 but runs very sweet!

I would stay away from boost controllers.

As you have a MY99 then you can take advantage of an ECUTEK remap. This can increase bhp/torque to around 270/280 even a little more if your lucky. Costs around £600-700 but worth every penny for improved performance and driveability. Also any further tweaking following the first remap is much cheaper as you pay a licence fee with the initial fee. Where are you based? Could point you in the direction of a good mapper.

Thanks for that, what are the problems associated with boost controllers? is it just the added strain put on the turbo? I live in bury st edmunds, Suffolk, would really appreciate you pointing me in the right direction of a good mapper. Its going to have to be just after christmas though, I am having my wheels refurbed the end of this week. The last owner must have prefered to drive on the kerb face instead of next to it!

ignor the comments regarding boost controller, as A apexi AVC-R is the best at controlling boost along with a ecutek remap , decat yr exhaust and you will get 30-40 bhp more

Cheers for that.

forget your boost controller, just get it remapped with ecutek, they can control the boost through the normal solenoid, whatever u intend on using to control boost intend on the mapper doing it,to put a manual boost controller on your 99 and start messing with it yourself without a remap would be asking for trouble!

yes ..you can do without a boost controller(not manual though ) , but with it fitted , the boost is more precise there for easier to map by the mapper :)
